What ‘surge’ Senator McCain?

Have you noticed that Senator McCain keeps talking about the “success” of the “surge” in Iraq without mentioning that the whole war in Iraq should never have been launched in the first place and has
been a disaster from day one? I think he is trying to keep us from remembering the lies from the Bush administration in the run-up to the war, and focus on his “double talk” about “progress” in Iraq.

Besides, if the “surge” is working in Iraq, then why is Senator McCain dragging his feet on withdrawing our troops? Why doesn’t he go along with the Iraqi government’s wishes for American troops to leave
by 2010? Of course, throwing large amounts of troops in Iraq has reduced violence. But, at what cost and for how long? I think McCain’s true wishes, like Bush, are now obvious — permanent
occupation.

Well, Senator McCain, the majority of the American public and world don’t agree.

The only “surge” that has taken place is the people’s realization that the Iraq war has been a fiasco, diverting our attention from Afghanistan, where the real war against terrorism should be fought, as
Senator Obama has urged for months. The real “surge” is here in our country in foreclosures, unemployment, inflation, gas prices, the budget deficit, food prices and numbers of wounded returning
soldiers, all of which Senator McCain and the Republicans don’t want you to remember.

So what “surge” are you talking about Senator McCain — the “surge” diversion in Iraq, or the “surge” on issues that really matter to the American people?

“I just love how Democrats are so quick to point the finger at Repbulicans for a war that the Democrats in Washington approved of and signed off on.  “

You’re so right.  Democrats did largely sign off on the war.  Why?  Oh yeah, because Bush/Cheney told them we were going to secure the vast stockpiles of Iraqi WMD.  Whether this was a deception or a screw-up of epic proportions, who knows?

“Should we leave?  Of course.  Now?  Maybe not. “

Ok.  How about in 16-20 months like Obama and the Iraqi PM are proposing?  Is that long enough for you?  Or do you need 100 years like McCain says?

“This gives the United States a chance to focus on training the Iraqi army to become self sufficient. “

Sorry, but this was not the point of the surge.  The surge was sold as a means to quiet the country long enough for the Iraqis to get their act together politically.  And that is a FACT.

This is typical of Republicans.  Keep changing the reasons to suit your agenda.  Why did we go to war?  WMDs.  No wait, get rid of Saddam.  No wait, fighting Al Qaeda.  Nope, spreading freedom.  Oh yeah, now its about keeping Iran in check. etc; etc;

Now the surge is supposedly about training the Iraqi army?  We had FOUR years to train the Iraqis before the surge.  Give me a freaking break.

WOW!  You are very typical.  Even Obama is suggesting that the surge was effective and that we should not remove troops for another 16 months.

I just love how Democrats are so quick to point the finger at Repbulicans for a war that the Democrats in Washington approved of and signed off on.

Some people are so quick to forget….er, bury their heads in the sand.

Should we leave?  Of course.  Now?  Maybe not.  Remember, people have been saying we should leave “NOW” ever since the beginning because the war was a ‘failure’.  Well because we stayed and because Senator McCain worked with President Bush and General Petraius now we have seen many successes in Iraq.  Suicide bombings have decreased dramatically.  This gives the United States a chance to focus on training the Iraqi army to become self sufficient.  A task that can not be taught in a 2 day session.  This isn’t your typical Starbucks training course.  Our soldiers are now able to assist in creating an infrastructure that never existed under tyrannical rule of Saddam.  New schools, churches, roads, stores, media outlets…all of these things are being built.  It all takes time.  To be so immature and irresponsible as to say we must leave now, having zero miltary experience and having never been there, is dangerous.  Even our troops, the guys that CHOOSE to be over there fighting this “lie” will tell you that we can not leave just yet.  And this is at the risk of death and their children losing their fathers/mothers.

Armchairing this war may be entertaining.  But to assume that your opinion holds more weight than a General’s or a soldiers is laughable at best and extremely dangerous.
