What to consider on Election Day

On Tuesday, Americans will have the opportunity to vote in what many are calling the most important election of our lifetime. And as the polls and news media seem ready to call the elections decided,
many may ask “why vote?”
First and foremost, voting is not only a civil right it is a responsibility. For 232 years, men and women have died to protect this right or in the case of women and African Americans, to achieve it.
Secondly, it is the foundation of our democracy. Unlike millions of people around the world, we have a say in who governs us. And thirdly, every single vote really does count. The 2000 presidential
election was the closest election in the United States to date. Polls indicate that the upcoming election could be even closer.
I would never presume to tell anyone how to vote, however I would encourage you to consider the following on Tuesday:
Barack Obama has a plan for the ailing economy that creates new jobs and stimulates the economy from the bottom up. He has a Health-care plan to provide affordable care to millions of the uninsured in
our country and has a plan to invest in renewable energy for our future.
John Warner has a proven record in Virginia. As governor, his administration inherited $6 billion in budget shortfalls and ended with a surplus. He’s a former high-tech business person, who co-founded the
company that became Nextel. If we ever needed people with a good business sense, we need them now. He believes we need to change our national energy policy, invest in renewable energy and
eliminate our dependence on foreign oil.
Gerry Connolly has detailed knowledge of local, national and international issues. He has nine years experience on the Fairfax Board of Supervisors and was a senior staff member of the Senate Foreign
Relations Committee. He will work to strengthen the economy, toughen environmental standards and fully fund schools. Mr. Connolly is very sensitive to the needs and issues facing the Prince William
residents of the 11th Congressional District
Please consider the above when you go to the polls on Tuesday.

Woodbridge District Supervisor

You might also wish to consider how the Republican leadership in our country has chosen to exercise it’s control of the White House and Congress over the past eight years.
The Economy: They inherited a budget surplus then quickly ran up the largest debt in US history, more than all previous administrations from George Washington to Bill Clinton combined (and that was LONG before the Wall Street bailout). They borrowed money from China and Saudi Arabia to give huge tax cuts to corporations that have moved our jobs overseas.
National Security: They took us to war against a country that had nothing to do with 9/11 and posed no significant security threat to our country. They completely botched the post invasion occupation of Iraq, fueling an insurgency and moving popular support to Osama bin Laden and Al Queda, not away from them.
Human Rights: We are now a country that tortures people. We have tortured innocent people to death, and specific torture techniques were discussed and decided upon from the White House. We have lied to the Red Cross and moved prisoners to avoid their discovery. We deny the most fundamental legal rights to “enemy combatants” and have decided that the President may declare anyone an “enemy combatant” for any reason whatsoever.
The Environment: They altered scientific research papers to suppress evidence of global warming. They have done nothing to reduce our dependence on foreign oil…we still have the worst automobile gas mileage standards of any industrialized western country.
We simply cannot afford another four years of Republican control in Washington. Vote Obama, Warner, Connolly!

Here’s something to check out, Mr. McCains legislative voting record. It might amaze some people to see what what he voted for and against, and better yet the overwhelming “NV”, or Not Voting.

From the WP: “polls show that Palin has become an even heavier weight in John McCain’s saddle than his association with George W. Bush.“
Sarah says not to worry, she will “remain” on the national scene “if” her ticket is not elected on Tuesday.
I suggest finding a blanket to wrap up in, after the clothes are donated to charity.

I support John McCain because he is head & shoulders the stronger on national defense. He provides the strength, wisdom, and patience needed to oversee this nation’s defense mechanisms, not only day-to-day, but in the inevitable crises to come. I want McCain at the head of our armed forces.
Sen Obama has chosen some very questionable people to associate with in the past, and this appears to reflect at a minimum a tarnished judgment and at a maximum a propensity to adopt the views of those he calls his friends.
The nation will decide who is the better on the economy issues. Methinks Joe the Plumber has helped in that regard!

Did you mean “Mark Warner” Mr. Principi?
Gerry Connelly welcomes illegal aliens, but he threatened to sue the federal government over the BRAC and the supposed “negative” impacts it would have on the school system. Let’s get this straight - welcome illegals but not the children of military personnel.
Barack Obama is a socialist, pals around with convicted terrorists, racists, anti-Semites, Marxists, Socialists, and people who are Anti-American.
Mark Warner is and was a “tax and spender.“
While McCain is not perfect, better an imperfect Republican than a perfect Socialist.

I’m going to vote for the team that ran a positive campaign, rather than the negative “pit-bull” team that always attacked but never said anything positive about themselves either.
I’m going to vote for the change America needs, not four more years of the McSame.
This letter was written to encourage people to go to the polls and vote - alas, I feel many Republicans are bitter at the McCain campaign and will stay home on Tuesday and not vote at all.
Was Barack on fire last night or what! He dispelled all the myths and rumors put forth by Republican slanderers and American finally got to hear the truth about Obama.

As a long time Fairfax county resident, I witnessed the deterioration and degradation of the Bailey’s Crossraods, Seven Corners, and Columbia Pike corridor caused by the influx of illegal immigrants. Bailey’s crossroads is the epicenter of MS13 gang violence. The once beautiful Seven Corners shopping center now has day laborers defecating in public in front of the once beautiful Garfinckels store, killing business in that area.
Cars parking on front lawns along the Columbia Pike corridor, single family homes turned into boarding houses. Sound familiar Mr. Principi! Under the Democratic leadership in your district, the Route 1 corridor is an undesirable place to live or shop. Apparently, your share Chairmen Connolly’s strategy when it comes to addressing the concerns citizens have with quality of life and safety. Look the other way!

Mr. Principi:
Your a politician and a member of the Democratic Party. How about voting for someone with a proven track record of leadership, crisis management, foreign policy experience, and the willingness to challenge his own party? Remember, hope is not a strategy!
Senator McCain will be ready to lead from the start. He won’t need “on the job” training.

Good letter until we hit the partisan ads
But it’s better than that other letter published today, the one spouting off about socialism (you know, that McCarthy scare-tactic word that really means NOTHING in the context of our capitalistic society which we take for granted as a privileged country) and “left wing” (one of those generalizations used to label anyone who doesn’t agree with a certain perspective).
Here’s something to consider while voting: vote for the person who doesn’t try to categorize, label or generalize your personal belief system.
Or will there be anyone left on the ballots to choose from if we use that criteria?
Oh well. Time to write someone in.
