Where has John McCain gone?

What happened to the hero of my youth, the man who walked off a plane, still brave and unbowed?

What turned him into a nasty, mean old man, stomping around a stage, cackling, smirking? Yes, we all knew he had a mean sometimes foul mouth, but he was still an honest, upfront man.

We may not have agreed with him and looked the other way at his disposing of a crippled wife, but now I look and I see this man who has cast aside all his principles, surrounded himself with “inside the
beltway” good ole boys, and now is willing to say and do anything to win the White House. A man who chose a woman to sit a heartbeat away from the Presidency of the free world, who sat in a church
and listened to David Brickner, of Jews for Jesus fame, as he said that Arab terrorism was God’s punishment to Israel for not believing in Jesus.

How can the John McCain that I knew put the fate of our beloved country in the possible hands of someone who would sit by and absorb such support of Arab terrorism? It is sad, and frightening, to see a
man, a hero, who once put America first, now put his own ambitions first, despite the dire consequences.

Yes, where has John McCain gone?

I believe you are correct phdee. John McCain was against torture until he once again choose to support President Bush in supporting torture in the final vote.

Either he enjoyed torture or he is one sick puppy.

QuestionAuthority:  I though McCain voted for torture, at least in the final vote. I even posted a remark that M. was tortured in Nam, but since he voted for the US torture, then he must have enjoyed the Nam torture,  Did I err?

John McCain is a brave and honorable man who loves his country very much, has worked hard to make America a better place and who suffered greatly in the service of his country. He and John Warner took the fight against torture to Bush and Cheney and that counts for a lot in my book.

But passion and sacrifice don’t necessarily make one the right pick for president. A fact that in no way diminishes his honor or service to country!

Colin Powell, the very loyal Republican general who supported Bush into war with Iraq, was on the TV this morning very articulately making this case as he announced his support for Barrack Obama.

A vote for Obama in no way diminishes our respect and appreciation for John McCain.

The John McCain fall from grace is sad because I too supported John McCain in 2000.  Had the Republican voters shown their support for McCain in 2000, the world would be a different place today.

Alas, Republicans put their judgement on display front and center and supported a large-state governor named George W. Bush. This of course, has shown their judgement cannot be trusted.

But the John McCain of today IS a different person. Drawn, beaten and bitter, he has taken a shotgun approach towards the election, blasting a shot at anything that moves in hopes of hitting something.

McCain does not have a plan for America, other than to get elected and then turn control of our country over to another large-state governor, who, like George W. Bush, brings nothing of leadership to the table.

In hinesight, McCain it turns out was never really here.  He just deceived people for a long time. The Bush campaign even once said mcCain was mentally ill.

McCain got smeared in 2000 by the same Repubs when he ran for President. This was to be the big year.  After all, he is 72 and has a foot in the grave.  It was now or never.

What has struck me as so odd is that during the primary season for Republicans, McCain did not run on “change”.  In other words, he told some bodacious lies and tricked the majorities into believing something other than “change”.  This big lie completely turned me off, and I began to look at him more.

McCain is fake - a nothing.  And when he selected Palin as VP = well…you get the gist.
