Sandi Teets, not satisfied with her attempt to besmirch the good name of Senator Barack Obama, has now decided that I do not have a sense of humor because I did not think her “sarcastic” opinion
letter was funny, “Ha, Ha.” (When sarcasm is misperceived, Potomac News, July 8) Let me be absolutely clear so that Ms. Teets will understand me! I do not think “character assassination” is FUNNY!

Ms. Teets was NOT being sarcastic when she attacked Senator Obama. She was on a mission. Now, she is trying to cover her real intent. As a retired federal criminal investigator for over 32 years, I
recognize this “dodge” for what it is. “I didn’t mean to kill him when I pulled the trigger; I was just horsing around.” Well, the end result is just as tragic isn’t it?

I have dealt with “motive” and “intent” all of my career. Ms. Teets knew exactly what she was doing. Her motive was political. Her intent was to propagate the rumor or belief that Obama is a Muslim
(Which he is not) and that Muslims are bad (Which they are not)!

She wanted readers of the Potomac News to fear Obama as a presidential candidate so John McCain could win the election in Prince William County. Her intentions were no more innocent or honorable
than were those of a few partisan veterans who called themselves the “Swift Boat Veterans for Truth” in 2004. Their “character assassination” worked, killing an honorable and decent man’s chance of
becoming president, a man whose war record in Vietnam was just as heroic and admirable as John McCain’s.

That act of “character assassination” helped create the prolonged sad state of affairs under which we now suffer with George W. Bush and Dick Cheney as our “leaders.”

Finally, Ms. Teets does not know me any more than she knows Senator Obama. If she did, she would know that most of my friends agree that I have a wonderful sense of humor when I am not angry.

Godsaveus, I will point out Saddam Hussein was open and tolerant of Christians practicing in Iraq. That was then, this is now - no Christians permitted. Bush Administration progress.

There is no playing of the race card. Why attempt to have a rational discussion of something with someone who is a “closet” racist. It is the young folks who favor Obama mostly.  The older whites are mostly silent - they are ‘closet” racistxs who can’tmcome out and have to hide it.  When they get in the polling booth, each will be saying:  “I ain’t voting for no N****r”.  And that’sz a fact, especially among white southern Republicans.  Racism still exists in the US.  PWC and Manassas have tons of it.  Why live a lie and pretend otherwise?

Playing the race card is lame.  People like “godsaveus” are just dying for you to do it.  Its what they expect.

phdee, now come again with the color card to play in this election. Do you have something better? Poor Obama the Black candidate chosen for the white democrat leaders.

Those critics of Obama are unable to offer reasonable reasons.  Ironically, they azre just the same die-hard Republican white trash racists in Manassas and PWC.  Obama is opposed because he is black. Pure and simple. Once a southern racist Republican, always a racist.

“On a humorous note, I thought the magazine cover was hilarious ... it looked like a meeting of the Symbionese Liberation Army and the Black Panthers “

The funny part is that the New Yorker magazine is making fun of people like T Dawg for all of the crazy stuff they choose to believe about Obama.  Go figure.

Personally I don’t have a really high opinion of the Muslim religion.  And I’m not afraid to admit that I probably would not vote for a muslim candidate.

We have plenty of kooky Christians in the US though too.  Fortunately blowing themselves up hasn’t been a big part of their agenda.

Thank you Mr. Powell.  Well said.

Our Conservative friends posting here seem a bit grumpy today.  Perhaps this newspaper’s editorial acknowledging that one of the Republican’s major lines of attack - Obama’s refusal to say the pledge of allegiance - is false, upset a few folks?

For all that Conservatives scream about Sen. Obama’s weaknesses vice Sen. McCain’s stregths, the reality is that the only way Sen. McCain has any hope of winning is by Conservatives spreading enough lies about Sen. Obama.  It’s the way Bush won over Sen. Kerry in 2004; it’s the way Saxby Chambliss won over Georgia Senator Max Cleland in 2002; and it’s the way Bush won over V.P. Gore in 2000 (with a little help from Conservative friends on the Supreme Court).

The reality is that the only way Republicans can win elections is by lying about their records and policies, and lying about their Democratic opponents.  Now, they’re getting called on it.  Reality bites.

How can you dare to compare John Kerry with John McCain , John Kerry when testify about the “Winter soldier investigation “ in Congress , he called to the America soldiers in Vietnam a reminiscence of Genghis Khan, when at that time McCain was a prisoner of war tortured by Vietnamese soldier. For you Obama is not a Muslim but 36% of the population has a different view, it is sad. I disagree with you about Muslims, only a small minority of Muslim are, tolerant with other religions, respectfully to the women, peace lover. Most Muslim countries do not allowed other religion; Christians who remain in those countries suffer under the same hostile Islamic spirit, which views Jews and Christians as followers of “inferior” faiths who are naturally destined to be subjugated by Muslims. Christian minorities in Arab lands - have grown accustomed through the centuries to this sad state of oppression, with most of their leaders maintaining a code of silence about it to protect their flocks.

John McCain actually had a pretty dismal record in Vietnam. Had he not been taken prisoner, he would simply be another service member that fulfilled his duty and returned home.  McCain’s record however is better than President Bush, who went AWOL and VP Cheney who donned a chicken suit and never served.

Sandi Teets knows as much about humor and sarcasm as the folks at New Yorker magazine.
