I am writing to express my disfavor with the vote cast by the Board of County Supervisors, in favor of closing down the Manassas Senior Day Program.

My wife is in the later stages of Alzheimer’s disease and has been a participant for only one month. She loves the program and the staff who take care of her. I did not think that she would even last there one day, but I was pleasantly surprised to find out very early that she was the happiest I have seen her in years. I found myself staying around after delivering her and was amazed how professional the staff is and the dedication they have in regard to the programs they create and administer. It takes a lot of time and dedication to put together the program that they deliver each day of the week.

For 15 years, I was a selectman in Acton, Massachusetts. I was in office when the state passed Proposition 2.5, a program that many people said would shut down libraries, cut firemen and layoff police.
None of these things happened. We had to cut the programs that had big budgets which no longer were needed and served little purpose. None of the programs like caring for the sick and underprivileged were even reduced. I am sure there are better targets than the Manassas Senior Day Program that can be reduced or eliminated in Prince William County.

I worked for John Stirrup’s election back a few years ago. I worked to have him elected because he looked like a sharp guy and a level headed individual. But, his voting for closure was not the right thing to do. A county should be involved in helping the sick, the unfortunate and the underprivileged. Being a part of the Manassas Senior Day Program has made life more bearable for my wife and me.

molina, PWC is not racist , it is against illegal immigration not against legal immigration, I am a legal immigrant and I have no problem. If PWC “will be soon be a ghost town because the stampede of illegal immigrants” good for it. Very soon new residents looking for a better place to live , with lower taxes and clean air will come, like we did before the invasion of illegal immigrants.

Godsaveus, you should move to Arlington county or Alexandria just to learn how to live among immigrants, you will be amazed how much you could learn from other cultures. Mr. Kirby is not the only citizen concerned about the board of supervisors, many others citizens are complaning of higher taxes and services being cut as well, but repentance comes a little too late, Cory Steward got your votes already. he used “illegal immigrants” as escapegoats because he couldn’t blame nobody else for his failed policies. Arlington Co. and Alexandria are enjoying the benefits of immigrants while PWC is going down the drain for being a racist county, soon it will be a “ghost town”. raywilliams couldn’t have said it better.

The 97 cents increase in taxes was too low, in order to provide all services to legal residents. The increase in taxes should de higher like Arlington or Alexandria where they provide services to legal and illegal residents, but of course if the taxes where set higher the first people to complaint are the ones that support illegals in this county.

This cut is part of the resolution fever. I knew it would happen. The belief is that only illegals use these social service programs. So you got taken in by Stirrup?

Mr. Kirby, I’m this budget cut will be short-lived as many of our PWC Resolutionists are bragging about the huge savings to PWC taxpayers with the demise of illegal immigrants. 6 million alone in ESOL savings in just the first few months. Please prevail upon John and Corey to use the savings to reinstate the Senior Day Program. If Corey says these are just paper dollars with no real value, hold his feet to the fire and make him check with acting PWC Budget Director Chris Cummings.
