Writer not surprised about Letiecq

I am not surprised that the Southern Poverty Law center labeled Greg Letiecq a nativist. I have read the definition of “nativism” on the Wikipedia Web site and I urge others to do so also. I am disappointed that Help Save Manassas was not designated a hate group.
The shocking language used in letters to this newspaper describing illegal immigrants as “vermin,” “an infestation” and a problem that needs to be “eliminated,” reminds me of the “final solution” that Hitler came up with after scapegoating the Jews for the economic and other problems in Germany.
One of the arguments supporting deportation is that having these illegals here increases crime, but the data in a recent article in the Prince William Extra of the Post stated that the crime rate in fact has been lower in Manassas the last few years even as this population has expanded.
There are thousands in this country who came on student visas and stayed on after they expired. They are Africans, Europeans, Indians and Asians. There is no hate speech directed at them. It smacks of racism to single out Latinos. I echo Larry Remener’s letter in quoting Sinclair Lewis; “When Fascism comes to America it will be wrapped in a flag, carrying a cross.”

Phdee, you exhibit the standard response of someone who has nothing of value to say, and certainly nothing worth pointing out as contributing to this dialogue. You can’t think of anything intelligent to say? Start flinging names and slurs. So typical.

Strange, k.o., there are anti-immigrant poster like yourself who claim police records are insaccurate, not all crimes are reported, etc., especially when a stat doesn’t fit their prejudices. Seems like the anti’s can’t get their l.ies straight.

Thanks MikeG, for so eloquently explaining the error of Ms. Reynolds’ ways. The MJM appears to be that vehicle of propaganda, repeating misinformation until the masses start accepting it as truth. Using her logic, I guess HSM is to blame for the overcrowding & unsanitary conditions many of the illegals live in. (I’m still waiting for her to answer my questions.)

MikeG, Hitler ws able to sway the people because of lies and false promises.
Goebelll, his propaganda minister said: “if you tell a lie long enough people will believe it”. This explains your lies and hate in your screed. You are just an apoligist for a racist, hatemongering group.

Jean’s post doesn’t surprise me. She’s typical of one who likes to employ one of the oldest sleights of hand that ever existed: distract your intended audience from the core issue by labeling others who disagree with you as hate mongers, fascists, baby killers, rapists, pedophiles; whatever it takes. In this way she can demonize in one swipe at her <enter> key all those who oppose the burgeoning influx of illegal aliens to this country.
It’s not going to work, dear. You are including yourself in the minority, here, so if the best you have to offer is to obfuscate and confuse, then obfuscate away.
It has already been demonstrated by democratic means that a majority of people in this region are not only upset and worried about the effects of illegal aliens in our community, but who are demanding that action be taken by their elected representatives to correct the situation. Trying to compare those of us who are concerned and who are voicing our concern in forums such as this with Hitler is the basest form of propagandistic hyperbole, totally without merit, and below the point to even deserve basic respect. Unlike the Jews, who were totally innocent victims of a genocidal maniac’s policies, the illegal aliens in this country aren’t being hounded and forced into ghettos and concentration and extermination camps. To suggest such a comparison is nothing more than an insult on so many levels, and I would put to you that you owe everyone an apology.
The fact that Help Save Manassas is not and should not be designated a hate group should be self evident. How can you condemn a man and a group of supporters who have done nothing more than bring attention to the seriousness of the illegal alien situation in this region, in a peaceful manner I might add. Controversy often brings confrontation, that is true; but HSM has not been, to my knowledge, involved in any such situations or acts. That their views may not sit well with you is, well, not that important. They are like the majority of us; concerned about the debilitating effects illegal aliens have had and continue to have on our way of life, our economy, our public schools and hospitals, to mention only a few. Unlike most of us, however, they have elected to put themselves in the public eye by associating themselves openly with this controversial issue. While I myself am not associated with HSM, and I don’t know Mr. Letiecq, I admire their courage and their convictions in the face of true hate mongers such as yourself.
On the subject of escalating or diminishing crime rates, I find your data as inconclusive on two fronts. First, a diminishing crime rate might reflect the rate relevant to the public at large, but probably not the illegal alien community who are more likely to not report a crime in the event that they get caught up in the deportation process. In other words, the illegal alien community might be experiencing an increase in crime. But it’s not difficult to see the effects of crime within the illegal alien community, especially when you review the numbers of illegals who are only waiting in prison to finish their sentences before being deported.
Yes, I’m sure there are hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens in this country who arrived here legally on student visas, only to let them expire and never leave, and yes, we’re all aware that these people come from dozens of countries on every continent in the world. Illegal is illegal, wherever they come from. It changes nothing if they’re Hispanic, African, Chinese, Caucasian, whatever. They are all here illegally and should not be allowed to stay. More often than not, they probably used the student visa process dishonestly in the first place, thereby cheating countless others who truly deserved those student visas and couldn’t get them as a result. These people should be located, taken into custody, and deported; it’s only logical. There is probably no other country in the world with the problems with illegal aliens such as we have here. Why is that, do you think? I’ll tell you. Other countries actually INSIST on people being properly documented in order to remain in their country. Get caught without papers in most of them, and you’d be glad if all they did was deport you!
So there’s my rant, dear, and in closing I could point a little obfuscation your way, as well. Why do you suppose Hitler was so effective in getting his policies by everyone? Why through the use of someone even more talented than you, named Joseph Goebbels, his chief propaganda minister! Interesting, that, hey?

Excellent letter! I want to add that hate speech is directed at everybody. The first victims are those who promote prejudice in the first place. That’s why it is everybody’s business to counter hate without compromise. You see racism springs from the fact those who indulge in it already have a problem because they believe they are better than others. Thus, when supposedly directed at one group, it ends up undermining the whole community. America’s high moral standards in the world have served us well so far. Let us nurture them further!

Ms. Reynolds, why don’t you check your “facts” before spewing hatred yourself. Can you identify the venomous language you quote from LTE’s as actually coming from HSM members? Do you not know that over 1/2 of 2007 murders in PWC were committed by illegal aliens (I have not checked their ancestry). Twenty percent of the inmates being held in our jail are illegal? Where in the world did you get the idea that HSM is against Latinos? It is battling illegal immigration, but the majority of those speaking at the marathon BOCS meeting were Latino - is that the fault of HSM?
