Father’s Day cometh

This Sunday, June 15, is Father’s Day. Ordinarily we would hold off and run an editorial about the day on the day.

American Legion Post 114 member passes

The passing of one of our community’s giants has left a legacy on Prince Williams County. Father Paul W. Mitchell, as I knew him, has contributed a lifetime to helping those in need.

Stifled Obama facts must be revealed

During the last two years of the Barack H. Obama campaign, the Potomac News has continuously stifled any negative facts about Obama.

Please help save the Senior Day Program

Please help save a treasure that has been keeping families together for over 17 years! The Manassas Senior Day Program will close June 20 unless many attend the June 17 Board of Supervisors Meeting, 2 p.m. at the McCoart Building.

Has the GOP bottomed out?

Be careful for what you ask for. You just might get it.

Liberty Street sign is a joke and eyesore

There have been several articles about the 9500 Liberty Street property.

Disappointed in Wolf’s environmental record

As a lifetime resident of Virginia, I am disappointed in Frank Wolf’s policies on global warming and other environmental issues.

Sportsmanship and spirit on display

On Wednesday, May 21, the Hylton Bulldogs Girls Lacrosse Team and the Woodbridge Vikings Boys Lacrosse team each traveled about four hours to Roanoke to play their regional playoff games. Apparently, seeing the other team there was pretty much a surprise to both local teams, especially as contests between Hylton and Woodbridge for any sport, at any level, are usually a bit spirited.

Today, vote for Leslie Byrne

Today is the Democratic Party primary for our 11th Congressional District.

Vigilance against nativism, xenophobia

Once again Prince William County is in the news.

Better mileage, lower gas cost

How would you like to reduce your gasoline expense by more than $250 monthly? If you are a typical motorist who drives 13,000 miles annually, half in the city and half on the open road, you can do this easily. Simply trade in your gas-guzzling, 8-cylinder sport-and-utility vehicle (SUV) on a small 4-cylinder sedan.

Growing up is hard to do

What do you want to be when you grow up?”
That eternal question, asked of students young and old, is surely flittering through the minds of many teenagers at this time of year.

Obama throws down health-care gauntlet

Barack Obama’s campaign stop in Bristol had the atmosphere of a pep rally, but it wasn’t all adulation and happy talk

Obama-Clinton ticket is no dream

Nobody listens to Jimmy Carter anymore, but once in a while, they should.

Better warnings when a twister approaches

Last Wednesday, I got a frantic phone message on my cell phone from my wife. The nervous tone of her voice said it all, “there is a tornado warning in Southeastern Prince William County, I think you had better pay attention to the news.”

Now for the vice president

All right. We’re now set on our presidential candidates for November — John McCain and Barack Obama. With a couple of months left until the conventions, all speculation will be turning to the vice presidential candidates.

Global warming affects everybody

I’m a citizen of Manassas and, more importantly, a citizen of Northern Virginia. As such, I’ve been extremely disappointed that Frank Wolf has not taken a stand about global warming and the effects it has on everyone.

Headline should not have focused on child’s failure

I viewed the front page of the Potomac News on May 30 with mixed emotions.

Frederick must keep his promise to constituents

I would like to offer my personal congratulations to Del. Jeffrey M. Frederick, R-Woodbridge, on his election to the chairmanship of the Virginia Republican Party.

Disappointed at reality of festival

I recently attended the WMZQ Fest with five friends. I very much looked forward to an exciting event at, what I was told, a wonderful venue. I was greatly disappointed.

The micro revolution

Back when I was in school, we used to spend a lot of time sitting around.  Actually, that sentence could end right there since that is what literature majors do.

No racial profiling in county

In a press conference Tuesday, Prince William County police chief Charlie T. Deane clarified the county’s immigration policy.

Giving the media a bad name

If you are ever looking for someone who lends the word “elite” to “media,” then look no further than Andrea Mitchell.

Experience can be a dangerous thing

In his May 30 letter, Tim Singstock urges us to vote for John McCain, because he is experienced and Barack Obama is not.

Reynolds doesn’t want illegal alien assimilation

I find it truly ironic that Gregg Reynolds hates the assimilation of illegal aliens and uses the guise of “immigrant” to shed a hateful euphemism towards legitimate and legal immigrants.

Hooray for Marshall and his Senate run

He was outspent 14 times over, ran an abbreviated campaign of less than 6 months, with no name recognition outside of Prince William County and came within 1 percent of capturing the Republican Senate nomination because of a principled run on defense of life and small government.

Losing the debate with name calling

When you attempt to label a fellow citizen a “Hate Filled Racist” you have lost the debate.

Thomas gets Obama wrong

Columnist Cal Thomas calls Barack Obama a “polar opposite of John F. Kennedy,” (“Obama: See No Evil” May 30) for contemplating negotiations with unfriendly nations.

Hey, kids, just say no to mooning

The following is a public service announcement.
