Why is the City of Manassas ticketing?

Why has the City of Manassas started ticketing cars in the lot across the tracks from the Thursday Farmers Market?

Why all the fuss about Liberty Street?

What is the fuss about this wall on Liberty street? I pass it every day and I never see any trash. Maybe the lawn could be cut, but other than that there is nothing wrong.

We want an intelligent president this time

Americans always course correct concerning their presidents.

New hospital policy is a positive move

I was delighted to read about the new policy that was adopted by Prince William Hospital, banning smoking anywhere on hospital property.

Algae infestation in Sumner Lake

These are some of the online reader reactions to a June 3 article about a body of water in the middle of the Sumner Lake neighborhood, which is infested with excessive green algae. Sumner Lake is in the City of Manassas.

How desperate can GOP be?

If you really wonder about all the talk about Republicans being in a real quandary this election cycle without offering a “viable brand” to voters, as the politicos like to say, we have to look no further than my mailbox this week.

When a loss signifies victory

An upset almost occurred last weekend. And even though Del. Robert G. Marshall, R-Prince William, did not secure the Republican nomination for the seat of retiring Republican Sen. John Warner, he showed that he has the future potential.

Thank you to those who protect us

I’d like to thank all the firefighters from the Nokesville Fire Department and the responding units from other stations.

Support of Inova, PWC hospital merger

I love Manassas; it has been home to me since 1964. I have worked as a nurse in this area for 32 years. I also have a heart condition.

Obama gets it wrong

Ever since they took the reigns of government in 2007, the Democrats have been trying to “end the war” in Iraq by quitting the fight and leaving Iraq in the hands of our enemies. Time and again the House and Senate took up legislation to force troop withdrawals and to deny money for supplies and weapons.

The consequences of the homeland invasion

An upcoming graduate of Prince William County Schools recently told me he was trying to find a summer job, without any success.

Peacemakers needed, not warmongers

I would like to comment on Cal Thomas’s article “Obama: See No Evil.” The point of Thomas’s article is that evil should not be handled diplomatically but aggressively stamped out.

Vote Frank Wolf in June 10 primary

This letter highlights Congressman Frank Wolf’s accomplishments in responding to constituent, community support, protection and government program service delivery needs.

The politics game

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama has been much maligned for an incident in 2007 where he did not put his hand over his heart during the National Anthem at a campaign event.

Obama gets what McCain does not

America needs to use “real-politics” that is based on military force and diplomacy, working together since neither work effectively alone.

A great loss to the City of Manassas

The City of Manassas and Prince William County have suffered a great loss.

Drivers and bicyclists sharing the road

Trying to be more green-minded, I’ve recently taken to the road on my bicycle. I’m quite a sight: pregnant mom pulling a trailer with two tots.

A story about illegal behavior

I feel oppressed and discriminated against by the people of Prince William County. It’s not what you’re thinking. I’m a native-born citizen of the United States. What I’m referring to is that I drive a car without a license, registration and insurance; I’m an undocumented driver.

Who will be Barack Obama’s running mate?

By mid-summer, presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama, D-IL, 46, will have to select a running mate who shares his vision for the future and who also will appeal to a broad section of the electorate.

Get outside for the summer

You can feel it in the air. While the sweltering heat of summer is not quite here, it is just around the corner.

Support the animal shelter advisory board

I’ve heard a group is trying to form an Advisory Board for the Prince William County animal shelter. Unfortunately, I’ve also heard the Board of County Supervisors, shelter and the police department have been less than supportive.

Vote Gerry Connolly in June 10 primaries

With the retirement of the incumbent, those of us voting in the 11th Congressional District will elect a new Congressman this year. Given the domestic problems facing Northern Virginia and the international problems facing the United States, we need a Congressman who understands these problems and with the experience, energy, integrity, vision, intelligence and effectiveness to make a difference.

McClellan book shows conflicted author

Near the end of “What Happened,” Scott McClellan’s tough-love critique of President Bush and his failed presidency, he recounts a bizarre and telling moment in the Oval Office.

In 2009, college affordability should be a priority

In just a few weeks many of our young people will walk across stage, grasp their well-earned diploma, toss their tassel to the opposite side and enter into the kingdom of adulthood.
Welcome! Now comes the fun part, trying to pay for college.

Helping those who follow the rules

The flipside to the illegal immigration debate is legal immigration.

Expanding the debate about illegal immigration

Our supervisors and county government are taking positive steps to ensure that Prince William County is a hate free zone.

Senior Day program closed after June 20

A Proclamation dated November 21, 2006, issued by the Board of County Supervisors and signed by Chairman Corey A. Stewart proclaiming November, 2006 as National Family Caregivers Month in Prince William County hangs on the wall in the Manassas Senior Day Program.

The value of drunk driving checkpoints

In response to the letter from Sarah Longwell that was published in the “Letters to the Editor” section of the Potomac News on May 26, the Prince William County Police Department would like to address several points raised by Ms. Longwell.

Fixing our housing mess

I’ve spoken about housing issues before, mostly in reference to how expensive it is to live in this county. I commended Chris Martino on his proposal to use interest income to keep mortgage interest rates low. I was astounded to hear on the news that towns near military bases have hugely high foreclosure rates, with Woodbridge being the second highest. And I am frustrated, as many are, about the lack of action on the government’s part to help us out of the crisis.
