Praise for all of the true heroes
This is in response to the article, “There is no such thing as unselfish concern,” written by Michael Ragland and printed on Oct. 4.
Finding a better way to cast votes
It is amazing how the discussion on the merits or demerits of voting machines and whether they are going to be scrapped or replaced at great cost seems to take place outside the context of modern technology and how we all live and function.
Outrage at the media’s coverage
As the presidential campaign grinds to an end, I am thoroughly outraged and disgusted by the slanted views we received from TV and newspaper coverage.

Local youth join global UN effort
The youth at Saint Mark’s United Methodist Church (UMC) in Manassas will be joining the global United Nations effort to remove landmines and unexploded ordinance in 29 countries by participating in the Schonstedt Humanitarian Demining Initiative.
Cost of the crackdown
The illegal immigrant crack-down in Prince William County continues.
Help to get rid of world hunger
As I walk in the entrance to school, I just look around to count the number of people with Starbucks, McDonald’s even Denny’s, and it’s always quite a number! Since we consume so much on the road, we have to make up for our fast food habits at the gym.
Time to put up or shut up
It’s here. Finally!
Today is a day that many people thought would never come — the end of this never-ending campaign.
The day has come; time to vote!
All right ladies and gentleman of Manassas, Manassas Park and Prince William County, this is it ... the day we have all been waiting for, or, in some instances, dreading. Today is Nov. 4. It is time to vote.

Obama’s song
Democrats trying to cue the victory music.
National health care disaster
We all know that a national health care system will be a disaster. There are two major issues at play when it comes to health care.
Federal bailout was no surprise
I have lived a relatively long time — long enough to see many complex and diversified developments occur. However, nothing compares to the recent federal government bailout situation.
Reality check
In the waning days of the campaign, one presidential candidate promised to “bring America together” to tackle tough problems.
No matter what, make sure to vote
The other day, I heard something that was rather disturbing to me.
I was at a meeting where a political expert predicted election turnouts to be in the high 60 percentage range. That troubled me for three reasons.
Taking responsibility upon ourselves
In this day and age, many people feel a sense of entitlement. They feel that the government owes them. And given the amount of taxes some pay, that is not exactly an unreasonable attitude.
Utopian world if Obama wins?
May I share my view with you? Obama wins (theoretically, of course!!). He is inaugurated next Jan. 20. The VERY NEXT DAY we will be getting all new reports from the whacky, freaky liberal Democrats out there!! Details follow:

National security, a subsuming issue
I attended the recent John McCain rally, close to the Prince William Liberty Memorial to all (including 22 from Prince William County) who perished in the 9/11 attacks. Sunday, I heard Colin Powell endorse the other candidate, a “fresh set of eyes” to our national problems. Hmmm.
Don’t abandon elected treasurer
To the Citizens of Manassas Park:
You have a very important issue on the ballot in this year’s election —whether to keep or abolish the position of the elected treasurer in Manassas Park.
Paper tries to straddle fence
Regarding your Oct. 25 opinion piece, “Who should be president? You decide!” What a bizarre opinion piece that was! First, I wouldn’t want to deny the staff their fun during their “endorsement process,” which, as it turns out, is nothing more than an exercise in obfuscation and sleight of hand.
Socialism is for the bees
A socialist economy is much like a bee hive. There are worker bees and drones and the queen. The idea is that the worker bees go out and collect the pollen that makes the honey for the subsistence of the members of the hive.
Fire support for incumbents in MP
The International Association of Fire Fighters Union, Local 2757 (City of Manassas Park) announces the endorsement of city council candidates Keith Miller, Bill Treuting and Bryan Polk; and Mayor Frank Jones for election in the 2008 elections for the City of Manassas Park.
Age is an issue in the election
I never believed Sen. John McCain’s age should be, as Ronald Reagan put it, “exploited for political purposes.” But his choice of running mate makes his age and health relevant. This choice was clearly political.
Obama will stop Bush policies
I am voting for Barack Obama because: 1) He will halt the Bush administration’s zero-regulation policy that has caused us economic turmoil, starting with the meltdown of Enron Corporation and leading up to our troubles on Wall Street.
Editorial makes assumptions
Your Oct. 29 editorial on the vandalism of homes in Gainesville makes the assumption that it was perpetrated by Obama supporters because the homes had McCain posters.
McCain starts where Bush ends
Eight years of failed leadership needs to be understood because Sen. John McCain will continue the major themes of the failed, far-right Republican leadership.
Impeach Bush and Cheney
Impeach President George W. Bush and Dick Cheney in the name of justice.
Connolly is right for nation’s future
Today, the United States is part of a global economy. To be successful in this new global economy, we must invest in the future — our children, who will become our next generation of leaders and innovate and create the jobs of the future.
Everybody will not do their share
Most of us, whether in high school, college, or work have worked hard during a group project.
What would Jesus do?
In response to Robin Touchet’s letter about her explanation of the teachings of Jesus Christ, I must admit she took much time and effort to say very little.
If you break it, you bought it
I am voting for Sen. John McCain, not because I agree with all his policies, but because I believe in Gen. Colin Powell’s statement, “If you break it, it’s yours.”
Respect your poll worker on Tuesday
When you go to the polls, remember that everyone working to ensure your vote is recorded is a paid volunteer receiving less than minimum wage for about 18 hours work.
