Cutting from a lean cow.
A vote for change was the right vote
This letter is in response to the letter entitled “Obama supporters have been had.”
Easily amused and the world is a better place
One of the great things about writing this column (besides getting to write it in the first place, which is great in and of itself) is the people who tell me about reading it.
Hybrid car and disabilities
Sometimes we take a trip to Tysons Corner mall, and most of the time I am able to park my car in a handicapped slot near the entrance.
The big three and the rule of begging
The homeless beggar near the office was smoking a cigarette and had a pack in this shirt pocket as he offered his cup for a handout.
Looking at real ways to fix the economy
Rep. Frank Wolf is asking President-Elect Barack Obama to support his proposed SAFE commission, and we hope Obama does so.

When debate turns ugly, no one wins
Since Election Day, the Mormon church has been the target of demonstrations protesting the passage of Proposition 8, the ballot initiative that outlawed same-sex marriage in California.
Obama’s pop quiz a tough one
As much as I admire President-Elect Barack Obama, I’m reconsidering my offer to serve in his administration. It’s not because of ideological differences, it’s because I wasn’t aware of the written exam.
Writer defends previous letter
Hey, News & Messenger readers! Mr. Larry Remener has resurrected his liberal attack mode in his adorable style.
Inauguration Day: life goes on

Obama’s people were all there
Please tell Max Goodgion (Nov. 18 letter, “Where are all the people?”) that I have photos and video from the Obama rally that I would be happy to share with him.
What about the question?
My family has been life-long residents of the Prince William/Manassas area and I’ve always taken an active role in the community, serving on boundary committees, working on land use issues, opposing the transmission lines, etc.
Where is the proof?
The question of President-elect Barack Obama’s citizenship, and therefore his legitimacy as a candidate for president, has been raised in court. Obama has not resolved this.
We need money for BMX park
We need BMX, not strip malls.
No more bailouts!
Bailouts! Stimulus “packages!” What a joke. Are we Americans, collectively, that dumb? We have already received one stimulus package and where did that get us?
Touching on some more local news
Simpson muses on various local news issues.
Prove legal presence, get tax relief

House fire shocks Manassas resident
I am confined to a wheelchair and I am shocked that a house off of Yates Ford Road could burn to the ground at 10:30 in the morning within a mile of the Buckhall firehouse.
Obama is inaugurated, you rake in the dough
Barack Obama is going to be the 44th president of the United States of America, and everybody wants to see him be inaugurated.
Condemn the behavior of Bush
Breaking our laws under the guise of executive privilege will destroy the Constitution and set a precedent for future politicians.
Grandma is coming to the White House?
Oh well, now grandma could be living in the White House to teach the children proper manners, discipline and to keep their feet on the ground, according to the parents.
Stimulus or workforce?
Grampa used to say, “You can’t build a house from the top down; you need to start with a foundation.” In the present economy, I don’t think “trickle-down” money will work. We need our workforce to be this foundation.
Let’s have a little fiscal restraint
The headline in a recent News & Messenger read, “Walts asks schools to scrimp.” In light of our economic situation, I was not surprised. He said that he would be asking schools and department to save money. This was a serious gesture and needs serious thought and action.
Investigating Math Investigations
A battle is raging in Prince William County over the new elementary math curriculum, “Investigations in Number, Data, and Space” — also known as “Math Investigations.”

Why we lost the 2008 election
The post 2008 election debate that should now be engaged should be among us — so-called right-wing members of our society — addressing our loss to the left with the election of Obama to the presidency.
Flip and Flop
Promises that, perhaps, cannot be kept.
Brother, can you spare a 12-gauge?
Shopping during the holiday (it’s too early to call it Christmas) season has always been fun for me. Regardless of the crowds, I enjoy taking some time to look at the decorations and listen to the ringing of Christmas bells and cash registers.
Saving green by going green
In this age of environmental awareness, it is not just individuals who are thinking about making their lives more “green.” Local governments are getting in on the act, and we will all be better for it.
GOP has nobody to blame but itself
I can’t believe, (well yes I can) the audacity of the writer who spoke of the Obama supporters who’ve been had.
