Don’t forget humanity of Barack Obama

More than a thanks for parade committee

A simple thank you just isn’t enough for our fabulous 2008 Dale City Parade Committee.

Pay for how one performs

I have been listening to National Public Radio in the mornings when I wake up. One subject that has been getting a lot of attention lately, both on NPR and in Washington, DC, is school reform.

Parsing fact and rumor

Newspapers are meant to be bastions of fact in a world often swayed by rumor and innuendo.

Stars in their eyes
Stars in their eyes

Why do people think the media is biased in favor of Barack Obama?

Soon, you won’t have Bush to kick around

Oh my, just what are the whacky, freaked-out, liberal George Bush haters going to do when he is out of office. My goodness, Mr. Remener and Mr. Chandler (who both had their wild rantings published in this paper recently), I ask you just what is going to occupy your time after January 20?

A nation of laws that must be respected

This is in response to the letter, “No desire for your sympathy or respect,” by Ruben Pineda.

The true story of Roe v. Wade

Thank you for the front page coverage of Stephanie Hopping with the American Life League, protesting Planned Parenthood’s meeting at Chinn Park Regional library.

Yards trouble spots now bloom on me

I itch.
As I write this, I am trying mightily to keep from removing my fingers from the keyboard and raking them across the ugly, raised red patch on my shin.

Guns, police and firing ranges

Twice a year. That is how often Manassas City Police get to practice their firearm skills.
That makes us nervous.

Opinion on alternative energy misleading

Your July 21 Opinion piece “Hot air fuels energy” quoted from another newspaper sounded much like a parody of the oil industry PR releases of 10 years ago.

No safe haven for birds in Montclair

Riddle: When is a bird sanctuary not a bird sanctuary?

Shameful decisions in Prince William County

I do hope many read the article, “Sights to see ... so close to home,” along with the elegant scene of the restored Brentsville courthouse featured in the July 13 edition of the Potomac News &  Manassas Journal Messenger.

A sarcastic take

These are some of the online reader reactions to the July 20 letter to the editor by Suzie Eskelund, “A sarcastic thanks for clearing our community.” Read the letter at http://www.insidenova.com.

What about personal responsibility?

I know people have lost houses because they couldn’t afford their mortgages. Others have lost jobs and cannot pay off their debts.

Maybe a local election will solve our problems

For better or for worse, and probably for better, the divisive, demagogue-rich issue of immigration (illegal or otherwise) has not reared its ugly head within the national presidential campaign — at least not to the extent that it dominates the far more important issues of the economy and war.

Not too embarrassed

Looking at some of the positive in Prince William County.

Turning 40 with a blip

It was not a pretty scene last week as I laid down on an emergency room bed two days shy of my 40th birthday.

Approval rating tells truth about Congress

If the top 10 most effective people in Congress are Democrats, and the Democrats control both houses of Congress, why is the Congressional approval rating in single digits and falling? (I guess it’s the Republicans fault.)

How effective are the Democrats really?

Could Mr. Gary Jacobsen be any more disillusioned? Mr. Jacobsen, before you go out bashing Republican Congressmen please keep this in mind: the current Congress is controlled by the Democrats. Here are just a few examples of what the “effective” Democrats are all about.

ODS makes the community safer

This is in response to a recent letter by C. P. Brothers III.

Patient stories show why health care is central in the election

If you need a reminder of why healthcare remains such a centerpiece of the fall election campaign, meet Kathryn McGinn of Woodbridge.

Fashionable hires

Ok, so at first this may sound a little silly. Action in Community Through Service will sponsor a fashion event today.

Attack on Bush was inappropriate

How truly sad and ironic that in the the days surrounding celebration and commemoration of the principles and ideals on which our nation was founded, we are assailed by a rude partisan critique and politicization of the presence of our president at the naturalization ceremony at Monticello.
