RICHMOND, Va. (AP) _ State Senator Kenneth T. Cuccinelli says he will run for Virginia attorney general in 2009.
Cuccinelli announced his candidacy Monday at a news conference in Fairfax.
The 39-year-old Republican is one of the Senate’s most forceful opponents of abortion rights, gun control, gay rights and no-fault divorce.
He is an advocate for classroom prayer in public schools and crackdowns on illegal or undocumented immigrants.
A lawyer in private practice, he has much more quietly established himself as an authority in the General Assembly on issues affecting the mentally ill.
He won the 39th District seat from western Fairfax County in a 2002 special election, succeeding Republican Sen. Warren E. Barry, who resigned to head the state Alcoholic Beverage Control Board.

I also liked that he is a proponent for open government.
I’d go head-to-head with him on other issues like gay rights, gun control, and immigration, but again, the law is the law is the law. As Attorney General, he would be mandated to uphold the law, not MAKE the law, as I understand the position. Someone correct me if I am wrong.
What we really WANT is an Attorney General who also wants open government...very good combination.
As far as creating laws.....that’s what “we the people” are for.
One of my first laws would be to make Attorney General (among other offices) a non-partisan position.
Who would be his opponent anyway? Corey Stewart? (HA HA HA HA HA~!)
