House Republican leaders will choose Wednesday whether Gov. Timothy M. Kaine's transportation funding bill dies in a showdown floor vote or takes a lethal detour to a committee famously hostile to tax increases.

Gov. Timothy M. Kaine told lawmakers Monday that Virginians expect them to act now to approve new funding for transportation.

Unanimously approved plan would finance through the sale of taxpayer-back bonds 75 construction projects over the next six years.
