All-Area baseball team named

ALL-AREA BASEBALL TEAM

FIRST TEAM

SCOTT BETTERLY

SS, Senior, Brentsville

Betterly was named the Northwestern District's Player of the Year and was first-team All-Region II at both pitcher and shortstop.

MATT CROUSE

OF, Senior, Battlefield

A skilled pitcher as well, Crouse was an all-district outfielder. He hit .444 with eight home runs, 25 RBI and 24 stolen bases.

SEAN GILLIAM

DH, Senior, Forest Park

Gilliam was the only Bruin selected to the All-Northwest Region first team; he was all-Cardinal District as well as a DH.

TAYLOR HERRELL

2B, Senior, Forest Park

Herrell was a first-team All-Cardinal District pick and was named to the All-Northwest Region second team.

ZACK LARSON

OF, Senior, Woodbridge

Larson, an All-Cardinal District outfielder, was one of the key cogs in the Vikings' run that fell just short of the postseason.

GEORGE PICCIRILLI

C, Senior, Osbourn Park

OP's leading hitter, Piccirilli earned first-team All-Cedar Run District and All-Northwest Region honors. He hit .459 this season and led the Jackets in hits, doubles, home runs, RBI and total bases.

EVAN SCOTT

P, Senior, Battlefield

Scott, all-district and all-region as a pitcher and an outfielder, hit .490; on the mound, he was 5-3 with two saves, a 1.40 ERA and 96 strikeouts.

DEVON SNOW

OF, Senior, Osbourn

Snow led the Eagles in hits, runs, stolen bases and on-base percentage among regulars; he was a first-team All-Cedar Run District pick.

JOEY SPADELL

1B, Senior, Woodbridge

Spadell earned first-team all-district honors and, with Jake Myer, gave Woodbridge a slugging tandem that was tough to beat.

MATT WAINMAN

P, Junior, Osbourn Park

Wainman allowed only five earned runs in 53 innings while going 8-0 and striking out 78. He was first-team all-district and all-region.

JONATHAN WRIGHT

UT, Senior, Forest Park

The county's top utility player, Wright was first-team All-Cardinal District and a second-team all-region pick.
