Battlefield softball blanks Liberty

Courtney Liddle hit for the cycle and Megan Sutphin tossed her fifth shutout this season as Battle-field blanked Liberty 8-0. Liddle drove in four runs with her effort, while Sutphin struck out nine and allowed two hits. Kelsie Scott went 2 for 4 with two doubles and two runs scored, while fresh-man Bailey Liddle hit two doubles and scored once in her second varsity start.
BASEBALL
• BATTLEFIELD 6, LIBERTY 4: Matt Crouse struck out eight and surrendered five hits over six innings in Battlefield’s win over Liberty. Crouse (3-1) also helped the offense with a home run, 2 RBI and a stolen base. Danny McDonald also hit a home run, drove in two runs and scored twice for the Bobcats (5-5, 3-1), while Brandon McMahon had two runs and an RBI. Evan Scott struck out the side in the seventh inning.
GIRLS SOCCER
• FREEDOM 1, STONEWALL JACKSON 1: Yessenia Condor scored the lone goal for Freedom, who earned a tie with the Raiders. Freedom is now 2-2-1.
• CHRIST CHAPEL ACADEMY 2, ISLAMIC SAUDI ACADEMY 1: Dani Lobo scored the de-cisive goal and added an assist as Anni Dibert recorded three saves in goal. Tyler Clemons scored Christ Chapel’s (2-0-1) first goal and Amber Mixon assisted on Lobo’s score.
• BATTLEFIELD 3, LIBERTY 0: Sahar Aflaki scored twice in Battlefield’s victory, while Aly Shaughnessy added a goal and an assist. Kristen Norkus and Alex Latham shared the shutout in goal for the Bobcats (3-1).
BOYS SOCCER
• BATTLEFIELD 7, LIBERTY 2: Reid McKee, Adam Clements and Duke Mensah scored three goals apiece to keep Battlefield undefeated. Clements also tallied an assist, as did Franco Buzzalino, Matt Plum and Thomas Mayhugh. The Bobcats (5-0) also picked up a score when Liberty scored on their own goal. Alan Hinton was in goal.
• STONEWALL JACKSON 1, FREEDOM 0: Junior William Bioh scored on a penalty kick to push the Raiders past Freedom. Carlos Soto saved two shots for Stonewall Jackson (2-2).
• BRENTSVILLE 2, MILLBROOK 2: Millbrook scored with five seconds left in regulation to keep Brentsville from picking up a district win. Zach Kennedy scored unassisted in the first half, while Jimmy Ford scored off a penalty kick in the second half. Mike Madigan picked up four saves in goal for the Tigers (2-1-2).
GIRLS TENNIS
• MILLBROOK 6, BRENTSVILLE 3: No. 3 Kelsey Brewster and No. 4 Jill Marianos each picked up 10-8 wins for the Tigers (1-4, 1-4), who fell short against Millbrook. The two also teamed up for a 10-6 doubles win.
BOYS TENNIS
• OSBOURN 7, LIBERTY 2: The Eagles improved to 2-2 overall and in Cedar Run District play with the win. No. 2 Sean Campbell (6-1, 6-2), No. 3 Dan Hughes (6-3, 6-4), No. 5 Tommy Ridgeway (6-4, 5-7, 7-6) and No. 6 Matt Perez (6-2, 4-6, 6-1) all recorded wins for Osbourn in singles play.
The Eagles swept the doubles matches as Kevin Primeau and Campbell combined for a 10-7 victory, Regan and Greg Robinson contributed a 10-7 win and Ridgeway and Perez completed the day with a 10-6 result.
GIRLS LACROSSE
• BATTLEFIELD 7, NOTRE DAME ACADEMY 5: The Bobcats improved to 4-1 by beating Notre Dame Academy.
Ali Schumacher scored three goals, recorded an assist and had five ground balls for Battlefield.
Battlefield’s Jessica Jacobson had three goals and five ground balls and Lesley Chambers and Morgan Clark recorded 11 and four ground balls, respectively.
