“We’re going to have to shoot a team record like we did at regionals for us to jump over six teams and contend for a state championship,” Battlefield coach John Tillman said. “We’re going to have to shoot another team record 293 or better, but we have the players to do it.”
Forest Park’s Joe Buttgereit and Mitch O’Shell both shot a 75. Matt Sizemore from Douglas Freeman shot a 68 to take the first-round lead.
Cox’s Brinson Paolini was second with a 70 followed by Centreville’s Noori Hyun (71), James River’s Nick Austin (72), Chantilly’s Ji Soo Park (72), Yorktown’s Thomas Strandemo (72), Kellam’s Wade Wawner (73), Cox’s Chris Valianos (73), Langley’s Brigitte Baker (74) and Westfield’s Brian Keith (74).
