It took doubles for the Bruins to beat the Vikings Thursday afternoon, 5-4. Chelsea McClure and Katrina Brown won their match 10-2 to give Forest Park (3-0) the deciding victory. McClure also contributed with a singles victory (6-0, 6-0).
Reagan Travis (6-0, 6-0), Hayley Rahl (6-1, 6-4) and Grace Baldwin (6-4, 6-3) won singles matches for the Bruins.
BOYS TENNIS
BATTLEFIELD 8, OSBOURN PARK 1: Justin Riley (6-3, 6-4), Alex Mann (6-3, 6-1), Brandon Malley (6-3, 5-7, 6-1), Peter Jones (6-3, 6-0), John Pastore (6-0, 6-0) and Luke Persian (4-6, 6-2, 6-2) won singles matches for the Bobcats (4-2).
Riley and Malley teamed up for a 10-5 doubles victory while Pastore and Gabriel Knight won their doubles match 10-3.
WOODBRIDGE 9, FOREST PARK 0: Brandon Larsen won at No. 1 singles (6-2, 6-1) followed by Brandon Bilewski (6-7 (0-7), 6-1, 6-2), Greg Hawrysko (6-2, 6-0), Ingu Lee (6-2, 6-0), Nathan Cruze (6-2, 6-2) and Paul Clare (6-0, 6-0). In doubles, the team of Bilewski and Hawrysko won via forfeit, while Larsen and Lee won at No. 2 (10-4) and Cruze and Eric Obeng won at No. 3 (10-0). Woodbridge is 5-0.
BOYS LACROSSE
BATTLEFIELD 13, WOODBRIDGE 1: Alex Best, Britt Hoover and Tavid McCaleb scored three goals apiece as the Bobcats (6-2) cruised to an easy road win. Battlefield received two goals from Matt Mullin and a goal each from Andre Felt and Chris Sit.
The Vikings (2-4) lone goal was scored by Joseph Ruiz while Aaron Bradley made 14 saves for Woodbridge.
OSBOURN 8, MOUNTAIN VIEW 2: Matt Sutton had five goals and one assist while Kiel Cooke had three goals and two assists as the Eagles (7-0) won easily at home. David Narron and Mason Smith added two assists each while Jim Fearon made 14 saves for Osbourn.
FOREST PARK 13, BROOKE POINT 9: Dave Costa scored four goals while Corey Ferguson added three goals and three assists for the Bruins. Forest Park (4-0) received two goals each from Landon Jones and TC O’Leary and a goal each from Tyler McCullough and Dane Richards. Justin Sherman made 11 saves for Forest Park and Stephen Palmateer had 13 ground balls.
GIRLS LACROSSE
POTOMAC 12, GAR-FIELD 6: Maggie O’Neil scored five goals and Megan Hofer added four as the Panthers knocked off the Indians. Potomac (3-1) got a goal each from Kelly Harlow, Jessie McDonald and Arielle Happy.
Hofer also had 14-drop controls for the Panthers.
POTOMAC 17, STONEWALL 2: Maggie O’Neill led the scoring for the Panthers with nine goals and Jessie McDonald and Kristen Kennedy each added two.
Kelly Harlow and Megan Hoefer scored once each. Senior defender Karen Glass scored her first career goal in the game as did first-year player Palina Gurung.
Audrey Gaivan recorded 10 saves for the Raiders in the loss.
SOFTBALL
BRENTSVILLE 4, CENTRAL 0: Devon Hileman struck out 13 batters while allowing just one hit over seven innings Thursday night. Hileman also helped her own cause with a sacrifice fly. Grace Nordan went 2 for 4 for the Tigers (7-0) while Abby Carpenter and Natalie Carrico each went 2 for 3. Marissa Emerman went 1 for 3 with an RBI.
Nordan scored two runs while Carrico scored one.
BASEBALL
BRENTSVILLE 8, MILLBROOK 5: Brentsville rallied to take the lead with a two-run sixth inning to beat Millbrook Wednesday in a Group AA Northwestern District baseball game. It was the Tigers’ eighth win in nine games.
Scott Betterly had the go-ahead hit, a two-run single in the sixth. Jimmy Kerns’ two-run double in the seventh added insurance.
Hayden Gilmer went 2 for 4, while Brian McBride had three runs and two stolen bases.
Pitcher Rich Lindsay (3-0) threw six innings, allowing all five runs, two walks and four strikeouts. Betterly pitched a perfect seventh for the save.
