Forest Park tops Woodbridge in softball

Forest Park's Melissa Carter hit a two-run double in the third inning and, in the fifth, scored on a triple by Chelsea Paprocki to lead the Bruins past Woodbridge 3-2 in a Cardinal District softball game on Thursday.
Carter had three strikeouts and allowed six hits to pick up the win.
Blair Lowe sealed the victory by recording all three outs in the seventh inning for the Bruins (8-6, 5-1 district).
• GAR-FIELD 8, POTOMAC 0: Ashleigh Engels pitched a complete game three-hitter as the Indians (4-11) won on the road. Engles (4-11) struck out two Panthers while walking just one.
The Indians received RBI from Kasee Hilliard and Brie Grevert while Kristen Engels and Ali Firich contributed two RBI apiece.
• HYLTON 19, FREEDOM 3: In a shortened game, the Bulldogs received five RBI from Heather Wood and four more from Jennifer Belk as Hylton (7-7, 4-1) won at home.
Cortney Bingham went 2 for 3 with an RBI and Katie Bingham pitched all five innings, striking out five.
• STONEWALL JACKSON 4, FAUQUIER 3, 10 inn.: Brittney Orsborn's run-scoring hit in the top of the 10th inning propelled Stonewall to a Cedar Run District win.
With Burgandy May and Melissa Kirby on the corners, Orsborn singled to end the game; her, Kirby, Krystal Smith and Kasey Miller all had two hits.
Kirby struck out 13 and allowed three hits and one walk for the Raiders (11-3, 6-3 district).
Baseball
• OSBOURN PARK 5, CULPEPER 0: Sam Fox's two-run home run in the bottom of the second inning broke a scoreless tie and George Piccirilli's solo shot in the bottom of the third sparked the Yellow Jackets (15-2, 10-1) to a win.
Nick Walker finished 2 for 3 with an RBI and Ian Heckman scored a run to round out the Osbourn Park scoring. Matt Wainman pitched six innings allowing four hits with seven strikeouts. Wainman has allowed just two earned runs in 40 innings pitched this season.
• POTOMAC 9, GAR-FIELD 2: Tyler Easterly pitched a complete game two-hitter and went 2 for 4 from the plate with an RBI in the Panthers (13-4, 5-2) win.
Edgar Quinones went 3 for 3 with two RBI while Ryan Moriarty went 1 for 3 with a two-run home run for Potomac.
• STONEWALL JACKSON 4, FAUQUIER 3: Josh Cesario went six innings allowing five hits while striking out two in the Raiders (8-5, 5-3) win. Cesario got out of a bases-loaded, no-out jam in the top of the fourth allowing zero runs.
Buddy Fields pitched the seventh for the save. Cory Persohn went 3 for 3 with an RBI and Matt Snyder went 1 for 3 with an RBI and a run.
• BRENTSVILLE 10, SKYLINE 7, 9 inn.: Scott Betterly drove in a run and Hayden Gilmer hit a three-run home run in the top of the ninth to give Brentsville a victory over Northwestern District foe Skyline.
Gilmer finished with five RBI.
Betterly earned the win in relief for the Tigers (13-2, 9-1 district).
• HYLTON 14, FREEDOM 4: Paul Boots pitched four innings, striking out five as the Bulldogs (6-11, 4-3) won an inning-shortened game.
Boots helped his own cause with three RBI while Bret Ireland added two RBI. Mike Tinner and Carlos Tellez each went 2 for 3 with an RBI.
BOYS LACROSSE
• WOODBRIDGE 15, FREEDOM 1: Drew Bouchard and David Estoclet both scored three goals to lead Woodbridge to a Cardinal District win.
Devin Bushweller and Zach Goble both had two goals and Aaron Bradley made seven saves for the Vikings (4-6, 2-1 district).
• FOREST PARK 18, GAR-FIELD 0: Tyler McCullough and Alex Downs scored three goals each as the Bruins (10-1, 3-0) won on the road. Landon Jones and Michael Padgell each had two goals and an assist while David Costa finished with two goals.
Steven Palmateer scored his first varsity goal while Brian Koons finished with six ground balls. Justin Sherman and Christian Kantz combined for the shutout.
GIRLS SOCCER
• GAR-FIELD 4, POTOMAC 0: Tammy Smith, Kathleen Fleming, Gabby Garcia and Robin Sweizer all scored for the Indians in their Cardinal District shutout over Potomac.
Melissa Roessler made four saves in the first half for the Indians (4-4-1, 3-2 district) while Laura Currie saved three shots in the second half.
• HYLTON 5, FREEDOM 0: The Bulldogs (5-5-1, 3-2-1) got five goals from five different players against the Eagles. Caitlin Thomas, Breiana While, Kelly Bowen, Mycal McNeil and Vianka Membreno all tallied for Hylton.
Thomas and Membreno each tallied an assist as did Ashley Garrison. Dani Nonaka made three saves to get the shutout.
• OSBOURN PARK 2, CULPEPER 0: Lauren McGowan scored in the first half and Carlie Blair scored in the second half for Osbourn Park (7-4-1, 2-1). Maryellen Derenda and Andrea Richard combined for six saves to earn the shutout.
Boys Soccer
• HYLTON 4, FREEDOM 2: The Bulldogs overcame a 2-0 deficit to pick up the win. Edwin Zolano scored in the first half to cut the Hylton deficit to 2-1 at halftime. Yovani Cruz, Carlos Ramos and Jose Portillo scored in the second half as Hylton (3-6, 2-4) completed the comeback.
Zolano and Ramos had an assist each while Cruz finished with two assists. John Sheffield made four saves for Hylton.
• OSBOURN PARK 5, CULPEPER 0: Five different players scored goals as Osbourn Park (9-1-2, 3-0) won easily at home. C.J. Olson, Paul Messier, Michael Heibach, Matt Scott and Jarrod Bendy scored for Osbourn Park.
• GAR-FIELD 8, POTOMAC 0: Luis Careagena scored a game high two goals as the Indians (7-0-1, 5-0) stayed unbeaten with an easy road win. Bruno DaSilva, Jose Ordonez, Chris Aget, Adalberto Reyhoso and German Calderon scored goals for Gar-Field.
Luis Guevara made one save to earn the shutout.
GIRLS LACROSSE
• WOODBRIDGE 19, FREEDOM 2: Caroline Strand scored a game-high nine goals and Jenna Gibson added four as Woodbridge won on the road.
Cecilia Pasquale, Kelly Walker and Meredith Nelson had two goals each while Sami Nichols made 14 saves as the Vikings rebounded from Wednesday nights 11-10 loss at Hylton.
Lexie Coulson scored both goals for Freedom.
• BATTLEFIELD 12, OSBOURN 5: Jessica Jacobson scored six goals and added an assist to lead Battlefield to a Cedar Run District win.
Ali Schumacher and Kim Esteban added two goals apiece for the Bobcats, while Caitlin Hester and Monica Reagan earned the win in net.
For Osbourn (6-6, 1-4), Ginny Iames scored three goals.
BOYS TENNIS
• WOODBRIDGE 7, HYLTON 2: The Vikings finished the regular season unbeaten with an 11-0 overall record and an 8-0 mark in the Cardinal District following Thursday's win.
For Woodbridge, Brandon Larson won at No. 1 singles 6-3, 7-5, Brandon Bilewski won at No. 2 singles 6-2, 6-0, Greg Hawrysko won at No. 3 singles 6-1, 6-4, Nathan Cruz won at No. 5 singles 6-2, 6-1 and Paul Clare won at No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-3.
In doubles, Hawrysko and Bilewski won at No. 1, 10-1 and Cruz and Eric Obeng won at No. 3, 10-4.
For Hylton, Raymond Willess won at No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-4. In doubles, Daniel Arnez and Darius Rush won at No. 2, 10-3.
WEDNESDAY'S LATE SCORES
SOFTBALL
• FREEDOM 4, MANASSAS PARK 3: The Eagles won their first game in school history. Victoria Halla picked up the win after pitching all seven innings and allowing three runs and three hits, while striking out five.
Lauren Swale scored the game-winning run from third after Erin Garlow got a hit with two outs late in the game.
Garlow went 2 for 3, while Swale scored two runs.
Halla, Kia Rivera and DK Ingram-Jones also each had a hit.
Girls Tenni
• FOREST PARK 7, FREEDOM 2: Melissa Cunningham (7-6, 6-2), Chelsea McClure (6-1, 6-0), Beth Snodgrass (5-7, 6-4, 6-4), Hayley Rahl (6-2, 6-1) and Grace Baldwin (6-2, 6-2) won singles matches for Forest Park.
The Bruins (9-1) received doubles wins from McClure and Ashley Owens (8-2) as well as Rahl and Baldwin (8-2).
