Forest Park defeats Langley in softball classic
Forest Park's softball team is now 3-0 in the Grand Strand Classic at Myrtle Beach.
The Bruins beat Langley 4-3 on Wednesday, getting the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning on a suicide squeeze from Christine Valero to score Lauren Topper.
Forest Park's Chelsea Paprocki scored a run off a hit from Christina Braxton. Melissa Carter was the winning pitcher. She pitched a complete game, gave up six hits, no walks and had five strikeouts. She also had an RBI.
"It was mostly a team effort today," said Bruins coach Jay Carter, whose team is 3-1 overall.
The Bruins play Madison, a school from Vienna today.
BASEBALL
• FOREST PARK 12, PARK VIEW 4: Forest Park's baseball team is 2-0 after beating Park View 12-4 on Wednesday.
Bruins starting pitcher Sean Gilliam picked up his first win. He threw three innings and gave up four hits and one earned run. He recorded four strikeouts.
Elliot Howard recorded the save by pitching two innings. The game was called after five innings.
Forest Park's Jamie Blackwell had three hits and two RBI and Jonathan Wright and Taylor Herrel both had two hits.
• SETON 10, ST. ANDREWS 6: Seton's baseball team fell 19-0 to Bishop Ireton on Tuesday night, but beat St. Andrews 10-6 and The Heights 13-7 over the weekend.
Ty Fletcher got the win against St. Andrews in a game where Seton scored seven runs with two outs.
Colin Gannon was the winning pitcher against The Heights and Peter Mooney helped Seton with a bases-clearing double.
BOYS LACROSSE
• NANSEMOND-SUFFOLK ACADEMY 9, WOODBRIDGE 2: Woodbridge dropped its season opener.
The Vikings received goals from Josh Brandon and David Estoclet and Devin Bushweller recorded an assist. Vikings goalkeeper Aaron Bradley contributed 11 saves.
