Gar-Field boys open with win

Kwasi Amponsah led all scorers with 20 as Gar-Field opened its season with a 49-44 win over Stonewall Jackson Tuesday night in the Tipoff Tournament held at Dominion High School.
The Indians (1-0) also received contributions from Curtis Einsmann and Jeremiah Johnson who each added eight points. Seven different Gar-Field players scored in the game.
For the Raiders (0-1), Brown Dixon scored 10 and Mike Alexander had nine. Jamal Ofsana hit two 3-pointers on his way to eight points. Morgan Winbush also had eight.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
• BRENTSVILLE 40, SETON 38: Keyla Baltimore scored a game-high 19 points to lead Brentsville to its first win of the season.
Kelsey Taylor also scored nine points for Brentsville (1-1).
Mimi Myers led Seton with nine points.
• OSBOURN 54, BROOKE POINT 53: Erika Scott hit the winning 3-pointer with 12 seconds left to lift the Eagles (1-0) to victory.
Scott hit three 3-pointers and led Osbourn with 20 points. She also grabbed three rebounds, dished out five assists and had four steals.
Deneka Williams (nine points, seven rebounds, two assists) and Kylie Peters (eight points, four rebounds, three assists) also contributed for Osbourn.
Osbourn’s Tiffany Byrd grabbed 10 rebounds and Kelsey Butler had four rebounds and dished out three assists.
