Hill scores game-winning run for Woodbridge softball

Allison Hill scored the game-winning run on an eighth-inning double by Jenna Hummel as the Woodbridge softball team defeated Hylton 6-5 on Tuesday.
Mary Claire Pedagno hit a solo home run for Woodbridge (4-5, 2-0), while Melissa Martinez tossed a complete game and struck out eight to pick up her first win.
For the Bulldogs, Lisa Dominquez, Leigh Anne Jacobs and Katie Barham each collected two hits, and Taylor Williams scored twice.
• LOUDOUN VALLEY 3, BATTLEFIELD 2: Kelsey Sayres hit an RBI triple and Brittany Black drove in a run, but the Bobcats fell one run short in a district battle. Megan Sutphin went 3 for 3 with a walk for Battlefield (8-3, 4-2).
• GAR-FIELD 12, FREEDOM 1: Ashleigh Engles struck out 10 over seven innings to help the Indians pick up their first win of the year. Engles did not allow a walk and surrendered only two hits.
Kristen Engles went 3 for 5 with a home run and 3 RBI, and Katy Pellien went 2 for 4 and drove in two runs.
• FOREST PARK 16, POTOMAC 1: Melissa Carter and Chelsea Paprocki each hit solo home runs as the Bruins defeated Potomac. Carter also gave up two hits and struck out three to pick up the win, while Paprocki finished 4 for 4.
Latecia Abbington went 4 for 4 and scored three runs for the Bruins (5-5, 1-1), while Anna Lyons drove in two runs on two hits.
• STONEWALL JACKSON 3, OSBOURN 1: Stonewall Jackson pitcher Melissa Kirby recorded 10 strikeouts and surrendered six hits and one walk. Kirby also went 1 for 3 with an RBI.
The Raiders (7-1, 3-1 Cedar Run) scored a run in the fourth, fifth and sixth.
The go-ahead run was scored in the fifth when Krystal Smith tripled to score Brittney Orsborn.
Stonewall’s Susie Finzel had a double.
Osbourn pitcher Ashleigh Williams gave up three hits and had three strikeouts.
BASEBALL
• WOODBRIDGE 2, HYLTON 0: Tyler Stout pitched a three-hit shutout to help the Vikings de-feat Hylton. Stout struck out six over seven innings. Christian Worrell drove in an early run for Woodbridge (8-2, 2-0), and Jake Myer hit a seventh-inning RBI double for insurance.
• OSBOURN PARK 6, FAUQUIER 1: Ryan Heckman drove in four runs and Matt Waiman struck out nine over four innings as the Yellow Jackets cruised past Fauquier. Heckman collected three hits, including a home run, while Waiman surrendered only one hit to improve to 4-0. Zach Bargeron went 2 for 3 for OP (10-1, 5-0), and Sam Fox tallied a double and two walks.
• GAR-FIELD 16, FREEDOM 4: Andrew Steinberg drove in three runs on three hits as the In-dians earned their first victory of the season. Tyler Habick struck out four over five innings to pick up the win, while Shaun Shaklee pitched the final two innings for the save. Shaklee was also 2 for 4 at the plate.
• STONEWALL JACKSON 8, OSBOURN 6: Buddy Fields and Josh Cesario each hit two-run home runs to push the Raiders past Osbourn. Fields also scored two runs and struck out two in two innings of relief, while Cesario fanned two in his inning of work. Jay Jay Zehring picked up the win by allowed one earned run in four innings. John Miller drove in a run on two hits for the Raiders (5-4, 2-2).
For the Eagles, Ben Garlick went 3 for 4 with a two-run triple, while Adam Gontkovic went 2 for 2 with two runs scored and a stolen base.
• MANASSAS PARK 4, STRASBURG 0: Nate Hoffa gave up one hit and struck out 10 over six innings to help the Cougars pick up their first district win. Cody Griffith had an RBI triple and scored once, Mike Mehus drove in a run and scored, and Donovan Johnson went 2 for 3 with an RBI for Manassas Park (2-4, 1-1).
• BATTLEFIELD 9, LOUDOUN VALLEY 1: Matt Crouse (4-1) struck out 10 and allowed one hit over six innings as the Bobcats defeated Loudoun Valley. Bobby Seagears hit a triple, stole three bases and scored three runs, and Max Dove drove in two runs and had a stolen base. Evan Scott scored twice and drove in a run for the Bobcats (7-5, 5-1), while Julian Joseph had two RBI and scored once.
BOYS SOCCER
• OSBOURN PARK 1, PATRICK HENRY 0: Paul Messier scored the lone goal in Osbourn Park’s win over Patrick Henry. Matthew Scott assisted the shot, and Joey Dennis had three saves for the Yellow Jackets (4-1-2).
• BATTLEFIELD 2, LOUDOUN VALLEY 0: Thomas Mayhugh and Franco Buzzalino each scored in the Bobcats’ win over Loudoun Valley. Michael Hinkle and Alan Hinton shared the shut-out for Battlefield (7-0).
• OSBOURN 1, STONEWALL JACKSON 0: Justin Innamorato scored for the Eagles on an as-sist by Morris Ramirez. With the win, Osbourn improves to 3-4.
•WOODBRIDGE 3, HYLTON 1: The Vikings played one man short for 29 minutes, but defeated the Bulldogs. Andy Sofranac, Mardong Guevara and Brian Lybert scored for Woodbridge (3-2). For the Bulldogs, Zach Rusk scored on a penalty kick.
• GAR-FIELD 5, FREEDOM 2: Carlos Menjivar scored once and had two assists in the Indians’ win over Freedom. AJ Painter, Luis Cartagena and Chris Angel scored for Gar-Field (3-0-1), and Allan Aguilar added an assist.
For the Eagles, Odane Bernard and Jairo Calderon scored.
GIRLS SOCCER
• BRENTSVILLE 4, HANDLEY 3: The Tigers narrowly defeated Handley to remain undefeated on the year. Ashley Grant and Julianna Willis led Brentsville (8-0, 7-0) with a goal and an assist apiece, while Ali Ruotolo and Alex Flesch each scored as well. Kimmy Hopkins and Maria Fe San-chez each posted one assist, and Erica Propps had ten saves.
• OSBOURN 6, STONEWALL JACKSON 0: Megan Gilchrest scored twice as the Eagles shut out Stonewall. Brittany Tatum, Alicia Kohn, and Jeanine Rossi also scored, while Shannon Dillman had one goal and one assist. Tracie Novak and Jasmine Brown each had an assist for Osbourn (5-1).
• BATTLEFIELD 3, LOUDOUN VALLEY 0: The Bobcats scored three goals in the second half to defeat Loudoun Valley. Sahar Aflaki, Domonique Evans and Emily Heston each scored for Bat-tlefield (5-1), while Jessica Jewell had two assists and Tara Rotante added one. Kristen Norkus had three saves.
MONDAY
GIRLS TENNIS
• GAR-FIELD 9, HYLTON 0: Gar-Field cruised to a Cardinal District girls tennis win on Mon-day, improving their record to 4-2.
Mashal Tamory, April Santos, Alecia Gaddis, Jacqie Meadows and Morgan Watts all had rela-tively easy wins; No. 3 singles player Shannon Howard had a much closer match, winning 7-5, 5-7, 7-5 for the Indians (3-2 district).
