Jessica Jacobson • Battlefield High School
• Age: 17
• Year: Junior
• Accomplishments: Jacobson was a key component to Battlefield’s successful season in which they beat all of their county competition. This season, she scored 67 goals and added 14 assists; she also collected 111 ground balls and forced 13 turnovers, the highest number among the Bobcats’ midfielders. She was first-team All-Cedar Run District and was third in the running for the district player of the year behind Loudoun Valley teammates Jessica Harkey and Shannon Harkey. Three other teammates — Ali Schumacher, Chanel Figueroa and Virginia Hyer — also joined Jacobson on the first team, giving Battlefield the second-most first-teamers of any squad outside of Loudoun Valley. She was also a first-team All-Northwest Region selection, one of three Bobcats to earn a spot on the first team.
• What was your most memorable moment of the season? “Beating Osbourn Park for the first time in school history, because every year we had lost to them in districts. So that was the most memorable moment.”
• In what area have you improved in most from last year to this year? “Probably looking for the open player. A year ago when I got the ball, I would have cradled it. Now I immediately look up.”
• Who has influenced you the most in lacrosse? “My coaches ... Roger Palmisano coached me in sixth grade and coaches me today. [Battlefield head coach] Tony Kilgore, he’s so committed to our team. And [assistant coach] Mark Schumacher, in practice he pushes us.”
