Kirby throws no-hitter as Raiders win

Stonewall Jackson pitcher Melissa Kirby threw a no-hitter in the Raiders’ 4-0, non-district win over Potomac on Tuesday.
Kirby had eight strikeouts and two walks to help keep Stonewall (3-0) unbeaten.
Krystal Smith scored two runs and Brittney Orsborn had two RBI for the Raiders.
• OSBOURN PARK 9, HYLTON 2: Amanda Potter allowed two runs on three hits and struck out six on Tuesday in Osbourn Park’s non-district victory over Hylton.
Stephanie Kesterman went 2 for 4 and drove in two runs for the Yellow Jackets, who improved to 4-2 overall.
Rachael Davies doubled twice and scored two runs, while Jasmine Bailey had two RBI.
Hylton scored both of its runs in the seventh inning on back-to-back doubles by Lisa Dominguez and Heather Wood.
• BRENTSVILLE 11, HERITAGE 1: Devon Hileman struck out 11 in seven innings as Brents-ville easily defeated Heritage. Kaitlyn Barbour finished 2 for 4 with a home run and 3 RBI, while Becki Tucker drove in a run and scored twice. Grace Nordan tripled and also scored for the Tigers (3-0).
BASEBALL
• DOMINION 2, GAR-FIELD 1: Gar-Field freshman Tyler Habick struck out ten and surren-dered only three hits, but Dominion scored twice with one out in the seventh inning to sneak past the Indians. Habick also drove in the only run for Gar-Field (0-4), while Shaun Shaklee went 2 for 4.
• BRENTSVILLE 8, HERITAGE 2: Brentsville collected only seven hits but took advantage of eight walks to defeat Heritage. Hayden Gilmer hit a two-run double in the sixth inning and Justin Weaver followed with an RBI triple. Gilmer scored two runs on the day, while Weaver struck out five and gave up two hits in two innings of relief. Scott Betterly picked up his first win of the season by striking out 11 and allowing no runs over five innings. Also for the Tigers (5-1, 1-0), Jimmy Kerns scored three runs and Chase Garrison added two.
GIRLS LACROSSE
• BATTLEFIELD 12, POTOMAC 4: Kim Esteban, Morgan Clark, and Ali Schumacher scored three goals apiece to lead Battlefield past Potomac. Esteban also had ten ground balls, while Clark posted 12 ground balls and an assist. Lesley Chambers, Jessica Maples, and Jessica Jacobson each scored once, while Chambers tallied an assist and Jacobson had eight ground balls. Caitlin Hester had four saves.
For the Panthers, Maggie O’Neill scored three times, while Megan Hofer added one goal. Emily Cribb saved 11 shots.
• OSBOURN 14, WOODBRIDGE 5: Brandy Brode scored five goals and added two assists in the Eagles’ win over Woodbridge. Corrie Mitchell and Megan Vahey each scored three times, while Madeline Birmingham, Ginny Iames and Hannah Eldredge tallied a goal and an assist apiece. Mitchell won five draws for Osbourn (4-1) and Eldredge grabbed nine groundballs, while Amber Meek posted 20 saves.
Cecilia Pasquale led the Vikings (0-1) with three goals, while Caroline Strand added a goal and Meredith Nelson had one assist.
