Markiewicz leaves Gar-Field for Woodbridge soccer
Mark Markiewicz has been named Woodbridge High School’s new boys soccer coach.
The Potomac News & Manassas Journal Messenger’s Boys Soccer Coach of the Year this season, Markiewicz led Gar-Field to a 9-4-3 record in 2008.
The Indians finished as the Cardinal District runner-up and advanced to the first round of the Northwest Region Tournament.
Markiewicz, who coached at Gar-Field for three seasons and posted an overall record of 40-9-6, led the Indians to the state championship game in 2006.
A physical education teacher at Woodbridge, Markiewicz also was the head coach at Freedom for one season.
Markiewicz replaces Don Allen, who stepped down after four seasons.
Vikings name lacrosse coaches
Woodbridge has named Joe Campagna as its new boys lacrosse coach and Casey Claiborne as its new girls lacrosse coach.
Campagna served as the varsity assistant this past season. He was also the head coach at Freedom for three seasons and coached at Chantilly High School.
He replaces Steve Claiborne, who led the Vikings to their third straight Northwest Region Tournament after the team finished 7-8 and made the Cardinal District Tournament final.
Casey Claiborne returns to lead the girls team after serving as the head coach in 2007.
She replaces Devon McGinley, who led the Vikings to the Cardinal District Tournament final this season.
Bukva to lead Bruins volleyball
Jonathan Bukva has been named Forest Park’s new volleyball coach.
Bukva was an assistant last season at Osbourn Park.
He replaces Dan Jones, the program’s first coach, who resigned after eight seasons.
Jones led the Bruins to eight straight Cardinal District titles and the 2003 Group AAA state championship.
