Battlefield High School
• Age: 49
• Year: Fourth
• Accomplishments: Battlefield won The Running Store City/County Championships, a Cedar Run District title, was fourth in the Northwest Region and sent 12 female athletes to the Group AAA state meet.
• Most memorable moment: “Winning both Cedar Run District titles. I’d never won boys’ and girls’ titles at the same time.”
• Who has influenced you the most in track? “The guy I took over for at Fort Myers High School in Char-lotte, North Carolina. He’d been coaching 30 years. He gave me tips on how to do things.”
• Where do you think the team improved most throughout the year? “They came together as a team. At the beginning of the season, I told the seniors, ‘This is your team. This season depends on your leadership. It de-pends on you stepping up and showing the young ones how to do it.’”
• What do you enjoy most about coaching track? “The individual successes of the athletes. You can have someone who is last in a race and sets a personal-best. As long as they improve, I never get mad at them.”
