Megan Sutphin struck out seven in a dominating performance Friday night as the Battlefield softball team shut out Fauquier 6-0.
Sutphin allowed three hits in a complete-game effort for the Bobcats, who improved to 7-1 overall and 3-0 in the Cedar Run District.
Courtney Liddle tripled and drove in a run, while Kelsey Sayres tripled and scored two runs.
GIRLS SOCCER
• BRENTSVILLE 5, JAMES WOOD 0: Ashley Grant and Kimmy Hopkins scored two goals each and the undefeated Tigers rolled to another shutout victory in the Northwestern District.
Chrissy Martin also scored a goal for Brentsville, which improved to 5-0 overall and 3-0 in district play.
Stephanie Dougher assisted on two goals, while Kelsey Reighard and Alex Flesch had one assist each. Goalie Erica Propps made four saves to earn the victory.
BOYS SOCCER
• OSBOURN 5, E.C. GLASS 1: Jon Cornwell scored a pair of goals and assisted on another as Osbourn advanced to the championship game of the High Peak Sportswear Soccer Classic in Lynchburg.
Travis Pittman, Richard Andino and Kadeen Purrier also scored goals for the Eagles, who even their record at 2-2.
Osbourn faces Blacksburg in tonight’s title game.
BOYS TENNIS
• BATTLEFIELD 5, LIBERTY 4: Battlefield received singles victories from its second through four players — Alex Mann (6-2, 6-0), Brandon Malley (6-1, 6-2) and John Pastore (6-1, 6-2).
The Bobcats (3-2, 3-2 Cedar Run) got doubles victories by Justin Riley and Malley 11-9 at No. 2 and Pastore and Luke Persian at No. 3 11-10 (12-10).
