Damien Thigpen • Stonewall Jackson High School
• Age: 16
• Year: Junior
• Accomplishments: Gar-Field Invitational 200-meter dash, 300-meter hurdles champion, 300-meter hurdles Southern Track Classic champion, Cedar Run District and Northwest Region 200-meter dash and 300-meter hurdles champion, Group AAA state 300-meter hurdles champion in a personal-best 37.04.
• Most memorable moment: “Winning at states last year. I didn’t finish as good as I wanted to my freshman year, but last year I blew the competition out, so that was pretty good.”
• Your biggest influence in track? “My coach Deon Taylor. He teaches me everything I need to know. My family’s a base, but without him, I wouldn’t be as far as I am.”
• Where did you improve most from last year to this year? “My foot speed and getting faster. We ran more than last year endurance-wise. My hurdling is better than last year, but my speed has improved.”
