Three Brentsville teams advance in tournament play

The Brentsville boys advanced to the Group AA Northwestern District soccer tournament semifinals with a 4-1 victory over Warren County Friday night.
The Tigers (8-4-4, 8-4-3), the No. 3 seed in the district playoffs, got goals from Jimmy Ford, Bryce Heltzel, Trey Bright and Robbie Cronauer in the win. Ford, Heltzel and Bright also each added assists. Mike Madigan recorded two saves in the game.
Brentsville will play Tuesday night against the winner of Friday’s matchup between No. 2 Sherando (11-3-2, 9-3-2) and No. 7 Skyline (5-9-1, 4-9-1). Depending on their opponent’s seed, the Tigers could head on the road or host next week.

BASEBALL
• BRENTSVILLE 9, WARREN COUNTY 4: The Tigers had plenty of offense in the first round of the Group AA Northwestern District Tournament Friday with eight of Brentsville’s nine starters recording hits. Scott Betterly lasted four innings and allowed just three runs on two hits and seven walks to go with seven strikeouts.
John Desilets (two innings, one run) and Austin Hale (one shut-out inning) pitched in relief for the Tigers (18-2). Brian McBride, Jimmy Kerns and Andrew Johnson recorded two hits each. McBride scored three times and Johnson drove in two runs. Justin Weaver also hit a solo home run. Chase Garrison added two RBI.

SOFTBALL
• HYLTON 6, POTOMAC 1: The Bulldogs finished their regular season schedule on a high-note behind the strength of Jennifer Belk’s complete game effort. Belk allowed five hits and struck out one for Hylton (10-8, 7-3 Cardinal District). Bulldog Taylor Williams was 2 for 4 with two RBI.
Hylton opens its Cardinal District Tournament path against Freedom at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

GIRLS SOCCER
• BRENTSVILLE 6, CENTRAL 0: The Tigers advanced to the Northwestern District Tournament semifinals with Friday’s shutout. Ashley Grant scored three goals, Julianna Willis added two and Jessica Bunner netted the sixth. Alex Flesch, Kelsey Reighard and Kayla Peck each recorded assists.
Next Tuesday Brentsville (15-0, 14-0) will play the winner of the Warren County-Millbrook tilt.
