Brentsville earns first football victory of the season

Brentsville’s football team earned its first win this year by beating Warren County 20-14 in overtime on Thursday.
David Hammond scored the winning touchdown on a seven-yard run, improving Brentsville to 1-3, 1-0 in the Northwestern District.
P.J. Borko scored the Tigers’ first touchdown on a four-yard run and Philip Johnson scored the second on an 11-yard run.
VOLLEYBALL
• BATTLEFIELD 3, OSBOURN 1: Battlefield beat Osbourn in a Cedar Run District volleyball match.
Game scores were 26-24, 23-25, 25-15, 25-21.
Malorie Greenfield led Osbourn (3-7, 1-7 Cedar Run) with 21 assists. Camille Purrier contributed 10 kills and Shelby Peters 12 digs.
Amanda Best (eight kills, four blocks) and Sara Miller (seven kills, four blocks) also helped Osbourn.
• FOREST PARK 3, POTOMAC 0: Forest Park improved to 2-4 overall, 1-1 in the Cardinal District by beating Potomac 25-8, 25-11, 25-16.
No further details were reported.
• WOODBRIDGE 3, GAR-FIELD 0: The Vikings beat the Indians 25-19, 25-12, 25-13 thanks to Casey Burdette and Allison Hill’s eight digs.
Katie Maksanty had seven kills for Woodbridge and Kelly Morrissey and Theresa McElroy both recorded three aces.
TUESDAY’S GAMES
• STONEWALL JACKSON 3, BATTLEFIELD 0: Amy Kalajainen led the Raiders with 13 kills and setter Tina Baehr had 31 assists in a 25-22, 25-18, 25-23 victory over Battlefield.
Brittney Orsborn combined for 12 digs and three blocks, while Ally Smith delivered four aces as Stonewall knocked the Bobcats out of first place in the Cedar Run District.
• BRENTSVILLE 3, HANDLEY 2: Johanna Hummel had 11 kills and four blocks while Christine Herndon finished with 10 kills as the Tigers rallied for a 22-25, 20-25, 25-20, 25-18, 15-13 victory.
Paige Knowlton, Emilie Knoll, Sammi Gough and Kelli Hedrick combined for 31 assists for the Tigers, who improved to 5-7 overall and 5-5 in the Northwestern District.
