In a season where more has gone wrong than right, the Brentsville football team delivered its best performance on Friday.

The Tigers defeated Central 47-20 thanks to a solid offense and cornerback Chris Spinks, who had two interceptions, one of which he returned 58 yards for a touchdown.

Spinks also broke up a pass on a fake punt Central ran in the second quarter.

"He's a solid leader," Brentsville coach Dean Reedy said. "He's our long snapper. He's a corner. He's an all-around program kid."

Brentsville (2-7, 2-4) started the night trailing 6-0 after Central's Logan Hutchinson scored on a 6-yard run.

The two-point conversion attempt failed.

The Tigers retaliated on Spinks' interception return for a touchdown and the extra point from kicker Nick Newman put them up 7-6.

The Tigers continued to score at will in the first half. Philip Johnson scored Brentsville's second touchdown with 38 seconds left in the second quarter from 10 yards out.

Johnson scored again in the second quarter and Newman's extra point put the Tigers ahead 20-6.

Then the Tigers' passing game came to life. With 3:24 left until halftime, quarterback P.J. Borko connected with Scotty Crane for a 55-yard touchdown.

Borko scored Brentsville's final touchdown of the half on a one-yard run.

Running back Matt Cummins also played a key role in Brentsville's victory. He scored his team's first touchdown of the second half on an eight-yard touchdown run.

Cummins' fellow running back, David Hammond, scored the Tigers' final touchdown on a 32-yard run in which he started right, then cut back to his left and outraced the Central defense to the end zone.

Central added two late touchdowns. Wide receiver Thomas Cooper scored with 6:36 left in the fourth quarter on a 21-yard pass from quarterback John Baroncelli.

Central's final touchdown came on the last play of the game. Baroncelli found Seth Mantz for a six-yard score.

p> "I thought we played well tonight," Reedy said.
