• Streaks: Woodbridge has made an area-high four straight playoff appearances; Potomac has won 11 straight district games and 17 straight regular-season games.

• Long distance opponent: After Rappahannock dropped out of the Bull Run District for football this season, Manassas Park scrambled to find an opponent in the middle of the two-year scheduling cycle. Thanks to the help of district colleague Strasburg, the Cougars lined up Berkeley Springs (W.Va.).

• Honored rivalry: The Gar-Field-Woodbridge series, which is the county’s longest rivalry and has been played uninterrupted since 1965, has been selected as part of the “Great American Rivalry Series.” The game will be featured on a webcast.

• All in the family: The Smith brothers (Kevin and twins Ryan and Justin) will all help coach Woodbridge’s varsity this season. Kevin is the offensive coordinator, while Ryan handles the quarterbacks and Justin the wide receivers. All three are Gar-Field graduates and played college football: (Kevin at Towson, Ryan and Justin at Bridgewater).
