Note
Mountain View High School’s football team has forfeited its 34-6 victory Sept. 5 over Freedom for using an ineligible player.
According to a press release issued by the Stafford County Public Schools System, the player was ineligible because he had turned 19 in July.
Virginia High School League rules state that any student who turns 19 prior to August. 1 is not eligible for athletics.
Chris Courtney, the assistant principal for activities and athletics at Mountain View, said he was informed of the player’s ineligibility on Thursday.
“It was brought to my attention and I acted on it,” said Courtney, who declined to say who had brought it to his attention.
The press release stated that the issue was caused by a clerical oversight.
