Battlefield’s Strittmater to attend Longwood

Battlefield distance runner Alex Strittmater is planning to attend Longwood University on a track and field and cross country scholarship.
Strittmater is the 2007 Cedar Run District outdoor champion.
He also placed sixth in the 2007 Cedar Run cross country meet in 17:19.00. His finish helped Battlefield win its first district cross country title.

Johnson signs with Elizabeth City
Hylton High School girls basketball player Kiara Johnson has signed with Division II Elizabeth City State (N.C.). An all-Cardinal District selection this season, the 5-foot-6 senior guard averaged 17.7 points per game along with 4.5 assists and 3.7 steals per game. Johnson was a four-year starter for the Bulldogs’ varsity.

Steele receives honor
Potomac High School graduate Deante Steele was named Shepherd University’s Special Teams Player of the Year for the football team. Steele led the Rams in punt returns (17 for 232 yards and one touchdown) and kick-off returns (20 for 457 yards).

Bradley wins high jump at ODACs
Osbourn Park High School graduate Leigh Bradley took first in the high jump and was second in the triple jump at the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships this past Saturday at Roanoke College. Competing for Bridgewater College, Bradley won the high jump with a jump of 1.88 meters. Bridgewater won the team title, which ended Lynchburg College’s 10-year reign as conference champion.

Arena claims CAA title
Osbourn Park High School graduate Emily Arena won the 3000-meter steeplechase at the Colonial Athletic Association Outdoor Track and Field Championships this past weekend in Williamsburg. The William & Mary junior recorded a personal-best time of 10:54.25. Her performance earned her an automatic bid to the NCAA Regional and also qualified her for the ECAC Championships. Her brother Anthony, an Osbourn Park and William & Mary graduate, is a previous CAA winner in the steeplechase.
The Tribe won the team title with 162 points.
