Ali Krieger (Forest Park) was named one of four alternates Monday for the U.S. Olympic Women's Soccer Team.

Krieger was not selected to the final 18-player roster that will represent the U.S.  in Beijing in August.

Krieger and the other three alternates will travel with the Olympic Team for two matches, July 2 against Norway and July 5 against Sweden. The team leaves Friday.

The Olympic Team then plays Brazil July 13 in Colorado and again on July 16 in San Diego. Both those games will field only the members of the final 18-player roster.

A defender who plays professionally for FC Frankfurt in Germany, Krieger has earned two caps playing for the U.S. Women's Team. This was her first year in the national team pool.

Krieger said she had not heard Monday from U.S. head women's soccer coach Pia Sundhage about the decision to make Krieger an alternate.

She learned of the news from her father.
