The 37-year-old Haymarket driver cruised to his first victory of the season in Late Models. He also took over the points lead in the division for the first time and leads Adam Brenner by two markers.
Lawrence, who won the pole in the 15-car field and started fifth, muscled by Robert Bruce in lap 21 and never looked back.
“The car was amazing tonight,” Lawrence said. “It’s easy to drive a Sam Beaty car.”
Bruce, who started on the pole in his first race of the season, finished second. He was pleased with a strong run his first night back.
“I’m glad to be back out here at Old Dominion again,” he said.
Adam Brenner, who had a tight race car, started sixth and finished third.
“The car was just tight everywhere,” Brenner said. “But we’ll take third. It was not the best points night, but third ain’t bad.”
Mike Arnold, who started fourth, had another good night. He finished fourth and is fourth in points. Les Miranda, who started third, finished fifth after getting around Ray Terczak in lap 45. Miranda is third in points.
In Mini Stocks, Bobby Able powered his way to his second straight win. Able started sixth and took the lead from Mike Carte in lap 11 after the two ran door-to-door for nearly three laps.
“The car was absolutely perfect tonight,” Able said. “We made some changes to it during the week and it couldn’t have been any better tonight.”
Carte, who started second and took the lead early from Steve Purks, finished second. Scotty Gore started third and came in third. He is second in points.
“The car was better after halfway,” Gore said. “Without practicing, it took me that long just to get the feel for it.”
Jason Darne was fourth and Keith Riley fifth.
In U-cars, Bryan Fox made it two in a row. Fox started fifth and battled wheel-to-wheel for three laps with leader Billy Ingle before passing him for the lead coming out of turn four in lap 15.
“It feels great to finally get two wins after going two years without a win,” Fox said.
“We had a good time,” Ingle said. “We finished second the second week in running, but didn’t tear anything up. So it was a good night.”
Greg Sites was third, James Beavers fourth and Albert Anderson fifth.
In Legends, David Polenz throttled to his first win at ODS. After starting fourth, Polenz, a New Jersey driver, got around Kevin Yeatts in turn one of lap three. Ryan Ellis started fifth, then tailed Polenz closely after following him around Yeatts.
“Ryan can drive,” Polenz said. “I can tell you that. And after winning a race last year and losing it, we wanted to come back and win convincingly.”
Ryan, who won the pole for the second week running, is tied for first in points with Roger Austin, Jr.
“David was running a really good race,” Ryan said. “And it was definitely a lot of fun tonight. I was about a tenth faster than everybody. I just couldn’t get the pass off.”
Austin, who started sixth, came in third. Kevin Yeatts was fourth and Jeff Hedrick fifth.
