Gutierrez honored by USA South Conference
Kyle Gutierrez, a 2008 graduate of Woodbridge High School who competes for Shenandoah University, was honored by the USA South Conference as its men's cross country rookie of the week.
Gutierrez finished eighth in the season-opening meet at Delaware Valley in a time of 28:18.
He followed that by finishing second this past weekend at the SU Invitational in 28:59.
Forest Park golf wins tri-meet
Joe Buttgereit shot a 36 to earn medalist honors as the Bruins finished with a team score of 152.
Woodbridge was second with a score of 190. Nick Rogoski was the Vikings' top finisher.
Potomac was third with a score of 236. Edgar Quinones was the Panthers' top finisher.
Yellow Jackets blank Brui
OSBOURN PARK 2, FOREST PARK 0: Jessica Lowman and Whitney Thomas scored both goals in the second half Thursday in a non-district game at home for the Yellow Jackets.
Goalie Jackie Moore had six saves, including one on a penalty stroke in the first half.
Osbourn Park improved to 1-3.
Gar-Field to honor military
To commemorate the anniversary of 9/11, Gar-Field High School will allow men and women in the military who wear their uniforms to attend for free Friday night's varsity football game against visiting Battlefield. The game begins at 7:30 p.m.
In addition, the National Guard will fly a helicopter in before the game and it will remain there on display during the game.
