NCAUSBCA ranks its top men and women bowlers

Who is the best bowler in Prince William County?  The answer of course is debatable given the many variables and circumstances in bowling.  But according to the official rankings of the Nation’s Capital Area United States Bowling Congress Association the area’s top bowler, male or female, in the 2007/2008 season is none other than Tiffany Bell. 
The rankings are based solely on the bowler’s composite average (a composite average is calculated by adding the total pin fall in sanctioned leagues plus all pins in the NCAUSBCA Open Championship and dividing the total by the sum of all the games).  Tiffany bowled 216 games over the course of the season and averaged an amazing 229 per game
Last season, Tiffany bowled her games at the Woodbridge and Bull Run Bowl America centers.  Other top 10 women who are either PW County residents or bowled in leagues in PW County are: Dawn Fay No. 2 - 213 avg., Stephanie M. Sutton No. 3 - 210 avg., Michelle K. Mullally No. 6 - 198 avg., Dianne Pauza No. 8 - 198 avg. and Charlynne M. Bowers No. 10 - 196 avg.
Finishing 2nd in the rankings for the men was perennial top 10 finisher Mark Glover with a 226 composite average compiled in 588 games.  The game total was more more than any other bowler in Northern Virginia, Maryland or the District of Columbia.  Other PW County men league bowlers finishing in the top 10, their ranking and their composite average were Michael J. Warner #5 - 219 avg. and John R. Fillis #8 - 217 avg.
Tournament Tidbits
The Big Dawg Championship:  A scratch singles tournament is coming to Bowl America Manassas on Oct. 17, 18 and 19.
This is a USBC certified event bowled on challenging PBA style lane conditioning.  Qualifying will consist of 6 games across 12 lanes. 
Friday squad entries bowl at 8:00pm, Saturday entries bowl at noon and 3 p.m., with the finals on Sunday (time to be announced).  From each squad the top 2 qualifiers, top 2 females, top 2 seniors (50-59) and the top super senior (60 and over) will move on to the Sunday elimination finals which will culminate with the last 4 bowlers bowling one game stepladder matches until a champion is determined.  For more information contact Jim Smith, the Tournament Director at 703-973-6005 or e-mail .
27th Annual Senior Tournament
Bowl America Gaithersburg is hosting the NCAUSBCA sponsored 27th Annual Senior Tournament over two weekends in October.  Times are Oct. 18 1:30 & 4:30pm, Oct. 19 1:00 & 4:00pm, Oct. 25 1:00 & 400pm and Oct. 26 1:00 & 4:00pm.  Entry fee is $20.00 per event and $4.00 optional all events.  Entries close Oct. 11. 
The events are singles, doubles and team.  All entrants must be members of the NCAUSBCA and at least 55 years of age. 
Singles classifications for men and women are Class A 70 years or older, B 65 to 69, C 60 to 64 and D 55 to 59.  Doubles are 2 women, 2 men or 1 woman/1 man.

Myth Buster
Myth:  If the 10 pin is left and the 7 pin slides from position and rests in the 8 pin position, it is not considered a 7-10 split.
Busted:  Splits are determined by the pin position before delivery, not where they end up after delivery.  If this spare is made, the bowler would be eligible for a 7-10 split award issued by the USBC.
