Redskins to kick off NFL season on national TV

The Washington Redskins open their 2008 season on a Thursday night in a nationally televised game, play two other nationally televised games and finish their season by playing three of their final four games on the road.

The NFL released the schedules of its 32 teams today.

The Redskins’ season-opening game also the entire NFL season. Washington will play at the New York Giants on Thursday, Sept. 4. Kickoff time is 7 p.m.

The Giants are the defending Super Bowl champions. The Redskins split games last season with the Giants, an NFC East rival, losing at home and winning in Giants Stadium.

The Redskins get an early look at their most heated rival, the Dallas Cowboys, in Dallas on Sept. 28. The Redskins also have a nationally televised game against the Cowboys at FedEx Field on Sunday night, Nov. 16.

The Redskins have one Monday night game, against the Pittsburgh Steelers, at FedEx Field, on Nov. 3.

The game that no doubt got the attention of new Redskins head coach Jim Zorn is the Nov. 23 matchup against the Seattle Seahawks in Seattle.

Zorn was the quarterbacks coach for the Seahawks for seven seasons before taking the Redskins job. He played quarterback for the Seahawks for nine years.

The Redskins were not given an easy final month of the season.

They play at Baltimore on Dec. 7, at Cincinnati on Dec. 14, are at home against Philadelphia, another NFC East rival, on Dec. 21, and close the regular season at San Francisco on Dec. 28.
