Seton pulls volleyball upset over state champ

The Seton School volleyball team opened the season Thursday with a 25-17, 22-25, 25-19, 25-14 victory over defending Virginia Independent School Division II state champion Notre Dame Academy.
Middle hitter Marion Lozano had a team-high 13 kills for the Conquistadors. Setters Sarah Sewell and Betsy Mooney had 25 assists each.
• ALBEMARLE 3, GAR-FIELD 1: The Indians fell to 2-1 with their loss (19-25, 14-25, 25-17, 9-25) to Albemarle.
Kirstin Griffith recorded 19 service points for Gar-Field and Kara Arbagast chipped in seven blocks.
• POTOMAC 3, STAFFORD 0: The Panthers improved to 3-2 after defeating the Indians Thursday, 25-23, 25-22 and 25-20. Katie Scheulen had seven blocks and five kills for the Panthers, while Tiana Patterson had 12 digs, eight kills and two blocks.
