Winners of Youth USBC announced

United States Bowling Congress Youth Volunteer, Coach and Ambassadors of the Year have been selected. The recipients will be presented their awards May 9 at the 2008 USBC Convention in Kansas City, Mo.
• John Fukasawa of Applegate, Calif., was named USBC Youth Program Volunteer of the Year for his outstanding efforts in fostering, operating and promoting youth bowling programs. Fukasawa has volunteered as a youth bowling coach for approximately 10 years at Fireside Lanes in Citrus Heights, Calif. Certified as a USBC Silver coach, Fukasawa assists bowlers during the centers Sat-urday morning youth leagues and also developed a Saturday afternoon clinic to offer individual lessons.
• Michael Nyitray of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., was selected as the David Dahms Coach of the Year for his outstanding commitment to coaching, sportsmanship and knowledge of USBC Youth bowl-ing rules. A USBC Gold coach, Nyitray volunteers his time working with youth bowlers at Bruns-wick Margate Lanes, a 32 lane center in Margate, Fla. He also has worked with parents of youth bowlers to help get high school bowling started at Gulliver Preparatory School in Pinecrest, Fla.
• Kayla Chick, 17, of Muscatine, Iowa, and Kyle Calcote, 18, of Friendswood, Texas, were named the Female and Male Youth Ambassadors of the Year, respectively, for their exemplary contribu-tions in the sport of bowling, academic accomplishments and community involvement. Each will receive a $1,500 scholarship. One of the two winners may be selected to serve a three-year term as a member of the USBC Youth Committee.
Chick is a senior at Muscatine High School and bowls on the school’s varsity team. At school she is a member of the National Honor Society, first chair clarinet in wind ensemble, head drum major of the Mighty Muskie marching band and president of the science club, She also is president of both the Muscatine Future Farmers of America and her local 4-H. Her career goal is to become a veterinarian.
Calcote is a senior at WTM Academy Homeschool, maintains an “A” average and is heavily in-volved in youth bowling at both the local and state levels. The president of the Greater Houston USBC Youth Leaders, Calcote is serving his second term as a youth representative on the Greater Houston USBC board of directors. He also serves as president of the Texas State USBC Youth Lead-ers, a director on the Texas State USBC board, and a member of the youth committees for both the Houston and Texas associations. Owner of a perfect game and 781 high series, the USBC Junior Gold member as been a youth leader for four years.
Youth of the Month bowlers
The United States Bowling Congress “Youth of the Week” league bowlers at Bowl America Woodbridge participated in a tournament to determine the centers “Youth of the Month” champi-ons in each playing division.
The Youth of the Month champions for February are:
• Adam Cessna, age 12, Preps Division. Adam is in fifth grade at Leesylvania Elementary School.
• Anthony Newbill Jr., age 14, Juniors Division. Anthony is a freshman at Potomac High School.
• Lekeya Newbill, age 17, Seniors Division. Lekeya is a junior at Potomac High School.
