Sophomore Monica Wright (Forest Park, 2006) scored 21 points on Thursday night to lead the Virginia women’s basketball team to a 67-57 victory over Boston College.
Wright, who surpassed 1,000 points for her career in less than two seasons, helped the Cavaliers clinch a first-round bye in the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament.
Lyndra Littles finished with 16 points and Sharnee Zoll added 10 assists for Virginia, which improved to 21-8 overall and 9-4 in the ACC.
The Cavs wrap up the regular season with a home game against Georgia Tech on Sunday.

Monica Wright has been a breath of fresh air. We see so many things written about athletes that are negative, and it is nice to see an athlete who represents our area with class and dignity. We should really be proud. I have watched her play since HS and I keep up with her at UVA. A lot of people felt she should have left the state for a bigger school, but she wanted to make a difference in her home-state. Kudos to her. We are certainly lucky and blessed to have her. I’m sure her parents did a great job in raising her. Congratulations, and I hope along with your teammates, she is able to bring UVA to the very top of the ACC!
