MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.—The Potomac Nationals had their Northern Division lead of the Carolina League dropped to 2.5 games Thursday night losing to Myrtle Beach 6-3.
Wilmington, which is in second place, had its game with Salem suspended in the bottom of the third, trailing 2-0. That game will resume later today.
Michael Burgess went 2 for 3, with two RBI and a home run for Potomac, while teammate Daniel Lyons went 2 for 4, with a solo home run, but it wasn’t enough as the Nationals were unable to do anything else.
Myrtle Beach scored two runs in the bottom of the first, only to have Potomac score three in the top of the sixth to take a 3-2 lead.
That lead, however, wouldn’t last long as the Pelicans scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth and never looked back.
Willie Cabrera and Phillip Britton each homered for Myrtle Beach.
Jaye Chapman (3-1) took the win, while Atahualpa Severino (0-4) suffered the mound loss. Myrtle Beach’s Nicholas Fellman recorded his seventh save of the season.
