P-Nats grab honors from Washington Nationals

The Washington Nationals named infielder Leonard Davis as their minor league player of the year and right-hander Jordan Zimmermann their minor league pitcher of the year.
Davis hit 25 home runs during the 2008 minor league season to lead all Washington farmhands. He hit .310 with 76 RBI, had a .365 on-base percentage and .567 slugging percentage in 122 games combined between the top three levels of the Nationals’ farm system.
The Nationals also named Davis the Potomac Nationals’ player of the year. He hit .332 with 14 home runs, 14 doubles and 37 RBI in 63 games for the P-Nats.
Zimmermann began the year at Potomac. He went 10-3 with a 2.89 ERA in 24 starts with Potomac and Double-A Harrisburg this year.
He led the Washington system with 134 strikeouts and was tied for first in wins.
Adrian Alaniz was chosen as Potomac’s pitcher of the year by the Washington Nationals. Alaniz was 9-0 with a 2.62 ERA in 12 starts before being promoted to Harrisburg.
Washington also named outfielder Michael Burgess, who joined Potomac late in the year, Low-A Hagerstown’s player of the year.
Burgess had 18 home runs, 69 RBI and 26 outfield assists with the Suns.
