Potomac blanked by Warthogs

The Potomac Nationals fell 5-0 to the Winston-Salem Warthogs on Sunday to earn a split of the four-game series.
Nationals starting pitcher Ross Detwiler suffered the loss. He gave up three runs on six hits, walked two and struck out seven in six innings to fall to 6-8.
Winston-Salem scored two runs in the first inning, then one in the fifth, seventh and eighth.
Potomac managed just five hits. Its only extra base hit was a double by Dee Brown.
Relief pitcher Jack Spradlin came on after Detwiler left and pitched two innings. Spradlin allowed two runs, none earned, on four hits. He issued one walk and recorded one strikeout.
Alex Morales pitched the ninth inning and recorded a strikeout.
Warthogs starter John Ely was the winning pitcher. Ely (6-11) allowed four hits, gave up no walks and had five strikeouts.
Potomac hits the road for a three-game series with the Lynchburg Hillcats. The Nationals return to Pfitzner Stadium on Aug. 11 for a three-game series with the Frederick Keys.
