The Potomac Nationals (14-11) stayed within a half-game of Lynchburg Tuesday night, with their 7-0 victory over the Salem Avalanche.
Lynchburg (15-11) edged Wilmington Tuesday night 6-5, to maintain its Carolina League Northern Division lead.
The Nationals and Lynchburg open a three-game series at Potomac Thursday night, beginning at 7:05 p.m.
However, Lynchburg is at Frederick tonight, beginning at 7:05 p.m., to make up a rainout.
Michael Martinez went 3 for 5 for Potomac, with a pair of doubles and three RBI.
Andrew Lefavre belted his first home run of the season for the Nationals.
Potomac scored a run in the top of the first, two in the second, one in the third, and three in the ninth.
Ryan Zimmerman went 1 for 5 in his second rehab game with the Nationals.
Jeff Mandel (4-2) took the win for Potomac, while Chad Wagler took the loss for the Avalanche.
