Potomac snaps streak in a big way

The Potomac Nationals belted out 17 hits en route to whipping Winston-Salem 11-2, snapping a four-game losing streak.
The win, coupled with Wilmington’s loss on Saturday night gives Potomac a four-game lead in the Carolina League’s Northern Division.
Saturday night, the Nationals scored four runs in the top of the third, two in the fourth, three in the fifth and two in the eighth to take an 11-0 lead before the Warthogs scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the ninth.
John Shelby blasted his 12th home run of the season in that ninth inning for the Warthogs.
As for Potomac, it’s players had a double party. Over all the Nationals had five doubles.
Francisco Plasencia had two hits, including a double and an RBI, Daniel Lyons had two hits, a double and an RBI, while Boomer Whiting had four hits, with a double and a pair of RBI.
Jhonatan Solano had two hits, with a double and an RBI, and Andrew Lefave had two hits with a double and three RBI.
Michael Martinez didn’t have a double, but he did have three singles and an RBI.
Hassan Pena (1-1) took the mound victory, while Michael Dubee (4-7) was saddled with the loss.
Tonight, Jeff Mandel (4-4) goes for Potomac, while Anthony Carter (4-3) will pitch for Winston-Salem.
First pitch is slated for 5 p.m.
