Winston-Salem scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, Thursday night and never looked back taking a 4-1 victory over the slumping Potomac Nationals.
Despite the loss, however, the Nationals remain atop the Northern Division of the Carolina League.
Winston-Salem designated hitter C.J. Retherford collected a pair of hits, including a home run, his 16th, while teammates Salvador Sanchez had two hits, including a double and John Shelby a double.
Darryl Lawhorn had two hits, including a double for Potomac, with Francisco Plasencia, Jhonatan Solano and Brian Finegan all with singles.
Matthew Long (7-10) was the winning pitcher and Matthew Zaleski recorded the save.
Erik Arnesen (2-1) took the loss for Potomac.
After scoring three runs in the bottom of the fourth, Winston-Salem added a single run in the bottom of the sixth. Potomac scored its lone run in the top of the fifth.
