Potomac tops Salem

After falling behind 3-1 after the first three innings, the Potomac Nationals stormed back to top the host Salem Avalanche 5-3 Sunday in Carolina League action.

Nationals starting pitcher Joe Norrito improved to 7-1 after going six innings. Norrito allowed just one earned run and struck out three.

Jhonny Nunez and Martin Beno came in relief and allowed no hits over the final three innings. Beno earned the save, his sixth of the season.

Offensively, Francisco Plasencia and Boomer Whiting each had two hits apiece for Potomac.

Whiting also added two RBI and connected on a solo home run in the third inning.

In the fourth inning, Potomac tied the game up at 3-3 when Aaron Suess' double to left field brought in Dee Brown.

In the fifth inning, Potomac took the lead for good when Trevor Lawhorn's sacrifice fly scored Plasencia from third base.

In the sixth inning, Potomac finished off its scoring when Michael Martinez's single to left field brought in Daniel Lyons from third base.

With the win, Potomac is tied with Lynchburg for first place in the Northern Division. Both teams have 13-10 re-cords.

Including today, Potomac has two more games at Salem before returning home Thursday to play Lynchburg.
