“The car started freeing up a little bit during the race,” said Lawrence, who now leads Adam Brenner by 75 markers, up from 33 points just two weeks ago. “I was able to save my car’s tires in the early laps.”
Miranda took home his highest finish yet in the division with a second. He battled Doug Liberman for the spot in the last half of the race. Liberman took the spot in lap four and Miranda took it back in lap 68 when Liberman pushed up in turn two.
“I had a great time out there tonight,” Miranda said.
Liberman, who qualified fifth and started fourth, took third, his sixth top five of the year.
“I messed up,” he said. “I got into one on the outside of a lap car too hard. And I just got loose coming off of two and Les got down underneath me.”
Ray Terczak, who qualified third, had another good night with a fourth place finish, his eighth top five of the season. Mike Southard was fifth and is third in points. He has six top fives in the last seven races.
In Legends, David Polenz grabbed his seventh victory of the year in an exciting, tense race. For the first part of the race, Polenz ran third, nose-to-tail with race leaders John Jansen, Jr. and Roger Austin, Jr. All three cars set a blistering pace for the 11-car field. In lap 17, Polenz took over second from Austin, Jr. Jansen then spun in turn four of lap 23 and collected Austin, Jr., Matt Cannon and several cars. Austin had to leave the race because of fluids leaking from his car’s rear.
Polenz then led to the checkers, with Kristine Keyes finishing second, her best top run yet in the division.
“This was the best win yet,” said Polenz, who is 49 points ahead of Austin, Jr. “John Jansen was pretty quick, but I was faster. Then Jansen was loose and went around in four. But I came out all right.”
“It was a great run,” said Keyes, who collected her first top five. She is seventh in points.
Cannon, who is third in points, was third. “It was tough coming back through after the spin, but we made it.”
Darrell Vance was fourth and Jansen, Jr. fifth.
In Mini Stocks, Davey Callihan is batting 1,000. Callihan ran his fourth race of the season and took home his fourth win. He started sixth and got around Scotty Gore in lap eight for the lead.
“The car was working real good tonight,” Callihan said. “The car went
anywhere I wanted it to go.”
Gore, who is tied with Mike Carte for second, came in second, his 10th top five of the year. Bobby Able was third, Carte fourth and Keith Riley fifth.
“I made it a little bit of a race for a couple of laps,” Gore said. “But Callihan had me covered.”
In U-Cars, Billy Ingle had a bonus night. He snagged two victories in twin races and gained the points lead, by four, from Bryan Fox. In the first twin 15-lapper, Ingle started 11th and got around Brian Grupe in lap six.
“It felt real good to win two,” said Ingle, who also started the Late Model race in a Ronnie Wolfe car. “But it didn’t feel as good as sitting in that Late Model tonight.”
Pole winner Albert Anderson was second. “We had a good run tonight,” he said. “But Billy was super fast.”
Greg Sites was third, Mark Taylor fourth and Larry Mullin fifth.
In the second race, Ingle started 10th. By lap eight, he was able to get around Mark Taylor for the lead and cruised to victory lane. Bryan Fox was second, Craig Olgevee third, Steve Brady fourth and Tyler Cypher fifth.
“I had no grip on the tires in that race,” Fox said. “And it made it tough through the corners.”
