Wegmans Food Markets is preparing to open its new Chantilly location in June and the company announced Tuesday that it is hiring and training for 320 part-time positions and a few remaining full-time jobs.

The new store at The Field at Commonwealth near Route 28 and Westfields Boulevard will open at 7 a.m. on June 3, according to a news release.

Part-time positions are available in every department, including line cooks, customer service representatives, and overnight positions. Hiring and training for full-time positions began in September and is ongoing with recruitment for full-time cooks.

Wegmans will host a hiring event at its Chantilly recruitment office from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Jan. 17 at 14280 Park Meadow Dr., Suite 100, Chantilly.

After completing an application, candidates will be interviewed on the spot. Job seekers are encouraged to first apply online at wegmans.com/careers. There will also be the opportunity to submit an application at the event.

“We’re expanding in Northern Virginia and we promote from within, which is ideal for anyone who wants to start or grow a career,” said Chantilly Store Manager Brien MacKendrick, who began working for the family-owned company 21 years ago as a part-time cashier. “Though we’re months away from opening, new employees begin in-depth training soon after they’re hired so that they’re knowledgeable about our products and fully prepared to deliver incredible customer service right from the start.”

The Chantilly Wegmans will be a 120,000 square-foot store and will be the first in Virginia to feature The Burger Bar restaurant.

Future Wegmans stores are planned in Tysons Corner and Alexandria.

Northern Virginia does not need more part-time jobs that don't pay a living wage, which is about $30 per hour. That's what it costs to live here. Anything less and it's a public subsidy to Northern VA employers. How many Wegman's employees are receiving food stamps and other forms of public assistance? This is a fabulously wealthy non-public corporation which thrives on part-time labor, as do the other supermarkets.
